The Seattle University swim teams picked up some much-needed confidence as they start to prepare for next month's conference championships, as the women's team earned a 136-69 victory over Whitworth University while the men's squad was victorious over the Pirates, 124-81, Friday evening at the Connolly Center pool.

On the women's side, Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) was victorious in both the 400 individual medley in 4:34.02 and in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.08. Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) also picked up two victories during the meet, touching the wall first in both the 200 freestyle in 1:54.85 and the 100 freestyle in 54.10 seconds, just 3/100ths of a second ahead of Whitworth's Jennifer Benson and 6/100ths of a second in front of Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.).

Another close race for the females came in the 100 butterfly, as Megan Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev.) posted a winning time of 58.75 seconds, just 1/100ths of a second ahead of teammate Briley Boggs (Federal Way, Wash.). Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.) earned a solid victory in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:47.72. Nguyen, Morehouse, Boggs, and Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.) combined for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:50.00, while the quartet of Cobb, Nguyen, Connie Rae Shobaken (Tualatin, Ore.), and Pomar-Enders closed out the night with a victory in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:55.70.

Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.) paced the men's team with two victories, finishing first in the 50 freestyle in 20.54 seconds and in the 100 freestyle in 45.75 seconds. Other individual winners for the Redhawk men included Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) in the 200 freestyle in 1:43.83, James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) in the 400 individual medley in 4:06.62, and Keith Andrews (Hillsboro, Ore.) in the 100 backstroke in 52.60 seconds, just ahead of teammate Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.) in second place with a time of 52.92 seconds.

Just as the women accomplished, the men won both relays, beginning with the team of Gilmore, Erin Warren (Seattle, Wash.), Anderson, and Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.) winning the 200 medley relay in 1:35.15. In the final event of the meet, the quartet of Gilmore, Tomas Mendez-Beck (Hillsboro, Ore.), Doug Pizac (Salt Lake City, Utah), and Longbotham pulled away to the victory in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:00.85.

Friday night's meet marked the final home contest of the 2010-11 season for the Seattle U men, meaning it was the final home meet in the collegiate careers of Warren and Andrew Martinez (Concord, Calif.). The men will next see action at the 2011 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 23-26 at the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach, Calif.

The Seattle University women's swim team heads right back to action Saturday, Jan. 29, welcoming the University of Nevada to the Connolly Center Pool for a 12 noon contest. The women will also host Oregon State and Boise State next Saturday, Feb. 5, at 12 noon in their final tuneup for the MPSF Championships.
