After losing to Sho Higuchi of Oregon in the main draw (6-2, 6-2), Bediones began his journey in the consolation draw Friday afternoon with a straight-set victory over Nikita Ryashchendko of Utah State (6-3, 7-5). Saturday, he defeated David Cysneiros of Montana (6-2, 7-5) and Andy Jackson of Air Force (6-3, 6-3). Bediones needed to get by teammate Eric Chalmers (Phoenix, Ariz.) in Sunday morning's semifinals (6-4, 6-1) before winning the draw with a straight-set victory over Gino Octa of Utah (6-3, 6-4).
Chalmers made it to the semifinals of the consolation draw by defeating both Jake Knox of Idaho (7-5, 1-6, 10-7) and Eric Braun of Montana (7-6, 2-6, 10-8) in super-tiebreakers. Junior Jordan Prince (Hansville, Wash.) reached the quarterfinals with victories over Peter Jones of Portland (6-3, 1-6, 10-8) and Sam Lyons of Idaho (6-4, ret.), while Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) picked up a straight-set (6-4, 6-3) victory over Prithiv Sivasubramaniam of Montana State, the number five seed in the main Orange Flight draw coming into the weekend.
Bediones, along with Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.), also advanced to the semifinals of the Orange Flight doubles main draw, defeating Stefan Simikic and Flavio Malagutti of Eastern Washington (8-4) and Diego Campos and Markus Schleuter of Montana State (8-6) Saturday before falling to Ratan Gill and Geoff Hernandez of Portland in Sunday's semifinals, 8-5.
David Kovas (South Bend, Ind.) won his first round match in the Blue Flight main draw, defeating Andrew Warren of Montana in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). He joined with Prince in defeating Devin Lane and Alejandro Medinilla of Utah in the quarterfinals of the Blue Flight doubles consolation draw, 9-8.
The Seattle University men's tennis team will conclude the fall schedule by competing in the Pacific Northwest Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by the University of Washington Nov. 5-7.
