The Seattle University swim teams used depth to their advantage, as the women pulled out a 107-98 victory while the men earned a 124-80 win over Simon Fraser Saturday evening at the Savage Swimming Pool.
Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) and Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) led the way for the SeattleU women, each winning two individual events. Cobb won the 200 meter freestyle in 2:10.89 and the 100 meter freestyle in 1:00.79. Morehouse was victorious in the 200 meter individual medley in 2:30.22 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.01.
Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.) finished second in both the 800 meter freestyle (9:25.81) and the 400 meter freestyle (4:38.96). Other SeattleU second place finishes include Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) in the 50 meter freestyle (28.52), Megan Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the 100 meter butterfly (1:06.63), and Kevlyn Richards (Gig Harbor, Wash.) in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:13.61).
The Seattle University women also earned second-place finishes in the relays, starting with the quartet of Rachel Leighter (Eugene, Ore.), Morehouse, Kelley, and Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.) in the 200 meter medley relay (2:05.08). Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii), Basler, Leighter, and Cobb placed second in the 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:51.67, just 37/100ths of a second behind Simon Fraser's team.
On the men's side, Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) and James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) showed no ill-effects from having competed the previous two days in Long Beach, Calif., each winning two individual events. Longbotham won the 200 meter freestyle in 1:53.97 and the 100 meter butterfly in 56.59 seconds. Gilmore earned victories in the 200 meter individual medley (2:09.90) and the 400 meter freestyle (4:13.22).
Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.) pulled out a victory in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 23.77 seconds, while Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.) earned a close win in the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:06.15. Anderson joined Chris Fulton (Snohomish, Wash.), Longbotham, and Jeff Tibbals (Moscow, Idaho) in closing out the meet with a victory in the 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.07.
The Seattle University women will host Loyola Marymount at the Connolly Center Pool Wednesday, Dec. 2, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The men will join the women in competing at the USA Nationals in Federal Way, Wash., on Dec. 3-5.
