After the two teams traded the first two points of the match, Oregon (4-0) went on a 12-2 run to open a double-digit advantage. The Ducks earned 15 kills and 6.5 team blocks while holding Seattle University to five kills, although the Redhawks were credited with three team blocks in the opening set.
Seattle University won the first point of the second set, but the Ducks outscored the Redhawks, 19-3, to take control. As in the first set, Oregon hit over .400 and missed on only one chance to produce a sideout situation.
After the intermission, Seattle University took a 6-4 lead thanks to a kill by Jessica Gunderson (Duvall, Wash.). However, Oregon scored 10 of the next 11 points to pull ahead, and the Ducks' serving carried the home team through to the end, as Oregon notched six aces in the final set.
Cristin Richards (Olympia, Wash.) and Janet Beckerman (Bellevue, Wash.) led SeattleU with six kills each, with Richards also leading the team with six digs and two total blocks. Jamie Mellies (Henderson, Nev.) finished with 17 assists, freshman Kelly Biette (Brighton, Colo.) also earned two block assists, and libero Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, Calif.) also collected six digs.
Katherine Fischer led Oregon with nine kills, plus she earned eight digs and four total blocks, while Neticia Enesi finished with seven kills, a .667 hitting percentage, and five total blocks. Setter Nevena Djordjevic earned 31 assists, five digs, and four block assists, and Heather Meyers had three aces and a match-high 11 digs.
Seattle University (1-3) heads to Corvallis, Ore., for the Active Ankle Challenge, hosted by Oregon State. The Redhawks will face Wisconsin in the first match of the tournament Saturday, Sept. 5, beginning at 6 p.m. at Gill Coliseum.
