Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.) picked up his second individual conference title in as many nights, Doug Djang (Seattle, Wash.) earned his first individual conference title of the week, and the two of them contributed to a victory in the 400 medley relay as the Seattle University swim team continued participation at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships Friday at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.

Djang held off Bryan Haile of Cal Baptist to win the 100 breaststroke in 55.28 seconds, just 36/100ths of a second ahead of Haile, the holder of the meet record. James White (El Cajon, Calif.) earned an eighth place finish in the same event with a time of 59.31 seconds, while Nick Hryciuk (Snohomish, Wash.) won the "C" final in 1:03.69 for a 17th place finish overall.

Breaking his own school record, Chiu controlled the final of the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 50.30 seconds to win by over a second. Chris Fulton (Snohomish, Wash.) finished sixth in 52.21 seconds and Keith Andrews (Hillsboro, Ore.) earned a seventh place finish in 52.94 seconds. Jeff Hockema (Newberg, Ore.) touched the wall fourth in the "B" final for a 12th place finish overall with a time of 54.24 seconds.

In the final event of the evening, Chiu, Djang, Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.), and Fulton posted the team’s best time of the year in the 400 medley relay, winning the event with a time of 3:22.17. The victory allowed the SeattleU men to hold onto second place in the team standings with 756 points, nine points ahead of third place UC Santa Cruz and 13 points in front of Cal Baptist in fourth place.

Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) obliterated the school record in the 400 individual medley by almost five seconds, finishing third in the finals with a time of 4:31.60. She also finished eighth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.95 seconds in the evening finals. In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) lowered her own school record with a time of 1:05.51, good enough for a fifth place finish in the event.

In the men’s 100 butterfly, Anderson finished third in a time of 50.31 seconds, followed by Eric Pedack (Snohomish, Wash.) in fifth place in 50.68 seconds and Garrett Nugent (Valencia, Calif.) in sixth place in 50.82 seconds. Nugent also finished in eighth place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.68, with Andrew Martinez (Concord, Calif.) placing tenth with a "B" final time of 1:43.83, Jeff Tibbals (Moscow, Idaho) finishing 13th overall in 1:45.03, and Nathan Freeman (Phoenix, Ariz.) finishing 14th overall in 1:45.95.

Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) won the "C" final of the 200 freestyle in 1:56.15 for a 17th place finish overall, with Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) posting a time of 1:56.93 and Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.) touching the wall in 1:56.96 to finish 19th and 20th overall, respectively. Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.) was the team’s top finisher in the women’s 100 backstroke, placing 15th with a time of 1:01.05. Andrew Miron (Billings, Mont.) was the top Redhawk finisher in the men’s 400 individual medley, earning a tenth place finish with a time of 4:11.22.

In the 400 medley relay, the women’s quartet of Nguyen, Morehouse, Cobb, and Basler finished in fifth place with a time of 3:59.75. After the completion of the third day, the women remained in seventh place in the team standings with 363 points.

Seattle University concludes competition in the PCSC Championships Saturday with the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay.
