Seattle University Swimming Sweeps Dual Meet

Both of the SU swim programs won their final home meet of the season at the Connolly Center pool during Senior Day Saturday.

It was a successful day in the pool for both of the Seattle University swimming programs as the women defeated Simon Fraser 120-60 and the men defeated the Clan 122-80 at the Connolly Center Pool. It was also the final home swimming meet for five seniors as they said goodbye during senior day.

Casey Hoffman (Burien, Wash.) started the action for the women’s team as she swam her top time of the season in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:53.89. Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) collected wins in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.68 and in the 100 freestyle in 54.77 seconds. Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) also added a win in the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.50.

Freshman Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) added two wins of her own in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.10 and the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:09.35. The women’s scoring was finished with a win by the 400 freestyle relay team of Hanohano, Basler, Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.), and Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.) with a time of 3:40.91.

On the men’s side, senior Doug Djang (Seattle, Wash.) set a new pool record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.51. Djang was also a part of the 200 medley relay team with Eric Pedack (Snohomish, Wash.), Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.), and Bryant Bevers (Federal Way, Wash.) that won in a time of 1:36.02.

Also on the men’s side, James White (El Cajon, Calif.) won the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:03.53. Anderson won a competitive 50 freestyle in 21.58 seconds, edging out teammate Chris Fulton (Snohomish, Wash.) who finished in 21.89 seconds. Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.) was able to pull away late in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:57.19. Pedack closed out the wins with a very close swim in the 100 butterfly, edging out Anderson in a time of 52.28 seconds for the victory.

The Seattle University swim teams will be back in the pool February18-21 at the PCSC Championships in Long Beach, Calif.
