Travis Glover (SeaTac, Wash.) and Katie Hansen (Portland, Ore.) each won individual events as the men finished fifth with 62.5 points and the women finished eighth with 52.5 points Saturday at the Shotwell Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound at Baker Stadium.
Glover won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.50 seconds, followed closely by teammate Christopher Fussell (Las Vegas, Nev.) in second place in 22.63 seconds. Glover also finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.08 seconds.
It was another 1-2 Seattle University finish in the women’s 1500 meter run, with Hansen finishing just under a second ahead of Rachael Johnson (Yakima, Wash.), 4:47.91 to 4:48.82. Hansen also finished sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.24, while Johnson finished tenth in the 400 meter dash in 1:03.32.
Solid performances were also posted by both 4x100 meter relay teams, with the men’s quartet earning the victory in 42.85 seconds, over a second and a half ahead of Central Washington. The women’s 4x100 relay finished fifth in 51.85 seconds. The men's 4x400 meter relay also earned a victory, finishing just ahead of the quartet from Western Washington with a time of 3:24.02
Other men’s scorers include Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.), who tied for fifth in the 110 meter hurdles in 17.14 seconds and finished seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.13. Graham Miller (Spokane, Wash.) finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:49.16, Loyal Allen, Jr. (Seattle, Wash.) earned a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash in 51.80 seconds, and Jude Anthony Martinez (Hagatna, Guam) finished seventh in the long jump with a top leap of 20' 2.25".
On the women’s side, Elizabeth Wolf (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.38 seconds and eighth in the 200 meter dash in 27.51 seconds. Erin Moon (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished eighth in the 100 meter dash in 13.91 seconds and tenth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:14.98. Courtney Cabebe (Kihei, Hawaii) tied for fourth in the pole vault by clearing a height of 9' 8" and finished eighth in the long jump with a top leap of 14' 10.75".
Also in the field events, Mara Becker (Fairbanks, Alaska) tied for third in the high jump by clearing a height of 4' 10.5", Lindsay Currier (Beaverton, Ore.) finished third in the discus throw with a top effort of 122' 6", Kamala Squires (Ventura, Calif.) finished eighth in the triple jump with a top leap of 30' 2", and Hali Bellisario (Newberry, Ore.) earned a ninth place finish in the javelin throw with a top effort of 111' 5".
The Seattle University track and field team will get an early taste of the Division I competition the program will face next year, heading to Eastern Washington University for the Pueller Invitational next Thursday and Friday, April 10-11, in Cheney, Wash.
