Eight school records were broken Saturday as the track and field team competed at the at the Dempsey Indoor Track.
Six school records were set on the women’s side. Rachel Purcell () ran the 200 meter dash in 27.96 seconds, Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.) finished the 300 meter dash in 49.62 seconds, Rachael Johnson (Yakima, Wash.) finished 11th in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:20.07, and Katie Hansen (Portland, Ore.) finished the 3000 meter run in 18th place with a time of 10:30.18. Additionally, the 4x400 meter relay team of Courtney Cabebe (, ), Erin Moon (), Purcell, and Johnson set a new school record with a time of 4:11.50, finishing in ninth place in that event. Also, Kamala Squires (Ventura, Calif.) set a new school record in the triple jump with a top leap of 9.02 meters.
On the men’s side, Udoka Odoemene (, ) set a new standard in the 300 meter dash with a time of 38.79 seconds, while d'Andre Benjamin () broke the school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds. Benjamin also finished ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.27 seconds, and Daniel Sullivan () finished ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.24 seconds. Nicholas Alvarado performed well in the 3000 meter run, finishing in 24th place in 8:53.05, and the 4x400 meter relay team of Loyal Allen, Jr. (, ), Christopher Fussell, Benjamin, and Robert Poshusta () finished fifth with a time of 3:30.07.
The track and field team will next compete at the Pilot Indoor Meet hosted by the on Friday, Feb. 8.
