The 13th-ranked Seattle University men’s soccer team dominated Monday’s match offensively, but needed two late goals to secure a 3-1 victory over Saint Martin’s in GNAC action at Championship Field.
Despite taking nine shots in the first half, did not score until the 36th minute, when Jason Cascio (, ) sent a pass to Eric Forner (). Forner’s thru ball found a streaking John Fishbaugher (), who beat his defender and eluded the goalie to earn his third goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 until the 68th minute, as ’s committed one of only nine fouls called on both teams combined in the match. On the free kick, Dustin Allbery () sent a short pass to Forner, whose shot from 25 yards out sailed past Saints goalie Zac Lubin into the net for Forner’s second goal of the season.
Saint Martin’s (2-10, 0-4 GNAC) cut the Redhawk advantage to one with seven minutes remaining in the contest, as Chase Franklin carried the ball up the field, drawing the attention of goalie Jordan Jennings (). sent a cross into the box, where Vlad Voin was waiting to tap the ball into the open net for his first tally of 2007.
Four minutes later, Andrew Kreiter () rushed up the field with the ball, entering the scoring area. His cross found Ian Walsh (), who knocked the shot into the net for his second goal of the season. dominated the match offensively, earning a 27-3 shot advantage and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Lubin kept the match close for the Saints, finishing with nine saves, including a few in which he needed to leap to deflect the ball away or face the oncoming shooter head-on. Despite not making a save in the match, earned his fourth victory of the season, coming out several times to stop a ’s rally.
