MOSCOW, Idaho — Seattle University women’s swimming opened its 2026-27 season Friday against Idaho, with the Redhawks falling to the Vandals, 232-62.

The Redhawks turned in several strong individual performances, highlighted by Samantha Cazares and Amanda Miller combining for a one-two finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Cazares touched the wall first in 57.73, followed closely by Miller in 58.03. The pair also helped Seattle U remain competitive in the sprint events, with Miller placing second in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.80 and Mia David finishing fourth in 24.96.

Molly Magnuson led Seattle U in the backstroke events, placing third in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.93 before narrowly missing the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke. Magnuson finished second in 2:06.07, just 0.51 seconds behind Idaho's Katy Foley.

In the breaststroke, Ruth Magnotti paced the Redhawks with a third-place finish in the 100-yard event, clocking 1:06.87. Delaney Johns added a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:26.49, while Kaitlyn Mero finished sixth in 2:29.05.

Seattle U also found success in the distance and individual medley events. Mero took third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:48.87 and added another third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, touching in 2:10.24. Lila McGeachy placed fifth in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:53.44) and 500-yard freestyle (5:24.57).

The Redhawks opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Magnuson, Magnotti, Miller and David posted a time of 1:47.73, finishing 1.56 seconds behind Idaho's winning team.

Seattle U closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Miller, David, Adeline Bennett and Giselle Hollis recorded a time of 3:39.22, finishing behind Idaho's A and B squads.

The Redhawks will have a quick turnaround as they travel back across the border to face Washington State in Pullman on Saturday, Oct. 10. The meet against the Cougars is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. PT.
