UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - For the fourth consecutive year, the Seattle University women's golf team teed off the season by competing in the Leadership and Golf Invitational, which Seattle U co-hosted with the University of Washington at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
Jeanne Padillo was the Redhawks' top finisher, placing 27th overall with +6 over, 222 and an excellent second round of -2 under, 70 with four birdies, which ties her career-best round.
"We are really excited for Jeanne, she had a couple of amazing rounds to close out the event and it was nice to see an upperclass athlete step up and lead the way," commented head coach Marc Chandonnet.
In their second career attempt at the course, sophomores Blayne Brown and Zoe Rubichon had similar results, tying for 45th with +10 over, 226 each. Brown had a low round of +1 over, 73 in both the first and the third rounds, while Rubichon carded +1 over, 73 in the second.
Melissa Gilloz and Carly Ikei both finished in the 80s, with Gilloz's +24 over, 240 and Ikei's +25 over, 241 good for 84th and 86th place, respectively.
Competing individually, Ayesha Baron placed 88th with +36 over, 252 and Niya Friesen carded +41 over, 257 for 90th place in her first collegiate competition.
Seattle University placed 14th in the 17 team field.
"We had an amazing week with lots of positives, it wasn’t the golf we wanted to play but we are a very young team and we will learn from this and only get stronger," said Chandonnet.
"A huge thank you to Visit Tacoma, Chambers Bay, our USGA staff, our volunteers, Terry Thomas and everyone else who helps make our event special."
The Redhawks next take action September 21-22 at the Red Bandana Invitational hosted by Boston College in Canton, Mass.
