AZUSA, Calif. — Seku Sanders claimed Seattle U’s all-time men’s outdoor track 800m record over the weekend.
Again.
Friday afternoon at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Sanders ran 1:48.75, breaking the previous record by over a second.
It wasn’t the first time he’s made history. At last year’s Oregon Preview, Sanders ran 1:51.20, breaking Alex Franklin’s record by over a full second.
Sanders then ran a personal-best 1:50.78 at last year’s Bryan Clay Invitational, but was outdone by Alex Jensen, who ran 1:50.63 at the same meet.
On Friday, the school record wasn't Sanders' only feat; he also ran a personal-best 3:56.70 in the 1500m, coming within two seconds of the school’s all-time top-10 list.
Sanders grabbed the headline, but the Redhawk personal bests were plentiful over the weekend, including three additional changes to the all-time top-10 list.
Also in California, Annabelle Clapp continued to make her mark on Redhawk history.
Clapp ran a personal-best 2:11.52 in the women’s 800m, vaulting to No. 3 all-time. She also ran the 400m in 57.52, improving her fifth-best mark in school history.
Jeremy Posdon set his PR with a 3:57.28 in the men’s 1500m, finishing just behind Sanders. Roman Radecki set his 5000m PR with a time of 14:48.32.
The PR party continued at the Larry Byerly Invitational in Portland, Ore.
In the women’s 800m, both competing Redhawks – Kristina Shkalenkova and Mira Danish — set personal bests with times of 2:17.33 and 2:19.76, respectively.
In the men’s 1500m, all three competing Redhawks set new personal-bests. Riley Tricas led the way with a 4:02.72 time, with Dan Barreto and Eli Perez following with times of 4:03.81 and 4:27.24, respectively.
On the women’s side, a trio of Redhawks also set PR’s in the 1500m. Mila Tsai led Seattle U with a 4:45.83 time. Jordan White set her personal-best with a 4:54.13 time. Sierra Swart followed with a 5:01.13 time, and Peyton Basilio added a PR with a 5:07.52 time.
In the men’s steeplechase, Porter Buck ran a 9:49.52 time for the 10th-best steeplechase time in school history. Lydia Dale ran the women’s steeplechase with an 11:28.37 time, improving her seventh-best time in Redhawk history.
In total, the Redhawks’ banner weekend included 17 PR’s and five updates to the school’s all-time top-10 list.
Seattle U will next compete in the OSU High Performance Meet from May 1-2 in Corvallis, Ore.
