- Seattle U bounced back from a heartbreaking Homecoming loss to Cal Poly on Nov. 8 with a runaway 94-67 win over Eastern Washington on Wednesday.
- The Redhawks shot at a blistering 64.5% clip for the game (37-57 FGs), marking their highest field-goal percentage since hitting at a 68.4% clip (39-57 FGs) on Jan. 24, 2009 in a 99-82 win over SIU-Edwardsville.
- Brayden Maldonado led the way with 26 points on 10-of-11 FGs. The senior guard was a perfect 6-6 in 2-pointers and 4-5 from three.
- Junseok Yeo hit his first five shots on his way to a career-high 17 points, including three three-pointers.
- Austin Maurer also had a breakout performance, scoring a career-high 13 points on 6-8 FGs.
- The Redhawks were able to empty the bench late in the game as redshirt freshmen Yuto Kawashima and Ray Adams made their first collegiate appearances along with true freshman Stratos Papastavrou. Kawashima and Papastavrou each tallied their first collegiate field goal in the final minutes of play.
- Saturday’s game against Idaho State will pit Maleek Arington against his former team for the first time since the senior guard transferred to Seattle U. Arington spent his first two collegiate seasons with the Bengals, earning Honorable Mention All-Big Sky and Big Sky All-Defensive Team honors in 2024.
ABOUT THE SERIES VS IDAHO STATE
- This marks just the third meeting between Seattle U and Idaho State in the Redhawks’ modern day Division I era.
- The teams last met on Nov. 14, 2021, marking the inaugural basketball game played in Climate Pledge Arena. The Redhawks ran away with a 77-51 win behind a career-high 30 points from Riley Grigsby and 18 points from Cameron Tyson.
- Seattle U won the first meeting after returning to Division I, 73-67, at KeyArena in Seattle on Nov. 27, 2017. Matej Kavas had 24 points to lead the Redhawks while Jordan Hill added 19.
- The teams met frequently in the 1950’s and 60’s with Seattle U holding a 27-7 all-time record over the Bengals.
- Prior to 2017, the last meeting between the two schools was during the 1978-79 season when they split a home-and-home series, each winning on their own court.

SEATTLE STORYLINES
- 2025-26 marks the Redhawks’ return the West Coast Conference. Seattle U was a one time member of the then West Coast Athletic Conference from 1971-1980, before dropping from NCAA Division I. The university was accepted into the West Coast Conference on May 10, 2024 and began its return to competition in the WCC in fall 2025.
- Seattle U has three international players hailing from Asia Pacific countries, including senior Junseok Yeo (South Korea), sophomore Houran Dan (China) and redshirt-freshman Yuto Kawashima (Japan).
- Based on roster data provided to the NCAA by member institutions, Yeo is the lone player from Korea on a Division I roster, Dan is one of just five players from China on a DI roster and Kawashima is one of seven players from Japan on a DI roster.
- Seattle U hosts all four other Division I programs in the state of Washington during the 2025-26 season. The Redhawks beat Eastern Washington, 94-67, on Nov. 12. They also host Washington on Dec. 19, Washington State on Dec. 30 and Gonzaga on Jan. 17.
- John Christofilis has poured in 116 threes in two-plus seasons at SU, putting him in striking distance of entering the SU all-time top-10 list this year. Sitting tied for 10th are Mack Junior (95-99) and Arne Klubberud (95-99), each with 144 career threes.
- Maleek Arington enters Saturday’s match-up against Cal Poly with 820 career points and will eye becoming a third member of the 2025-26 squad to surpass 1,000 career points. He would join Jojo Murphy (1,389 career points) and Brayden Maldonado (1,083 career points).
