BREMERTON, Wash. — Just like he did in last year’s The Tindall, Walker Lamb led the way for the Seattle University's men’s golf team.
But that’s where the similarities end between last year’s The Tindall event, held in Sammamish, and this year’s edition, which took place Monday and Tuesday at the Gold Mountain GC in Bremerton. This time around, the Redhawks completed the 54-hole event with a team score of -10, finishing sixth among a field of 14 teams.
For the second consecutive tournament, Lamb earned a top-10 result, finishing tied for eighth with a -6 under, including a 5-under 67 in round one that left him tied for the lead.
Kevin Li’s first round wasn’t as fortunate, as he carded a +3 over 75 and found himself in the middle of the pack. But Li caught fire in the second round, rattling off a stretch of five birdies in seven holes and finishing the round with a -4 under 68. At the end of the third round, Li again made a charge with three birdies in the final four holes to finish the tournament at -2 under, in a tie for 19th.
Ben Ragland made a similar charge after his first round produced a +7 over 79; Ragland shot a -3 under 69 in each of the final two legs of the tournament, soaring all the way to a tie for 33rd on the final leaderboard with a score of +1 over.
The Redhawks’ fourth finisher was freshman Jacob Kang, who finished in a tie for 55th at +5 over in just his second collegiate tournament.
Seattle U’s sixth-place team finish was a marked improvement from its inaugural tournament in the Palouse Collegiate held Sept. 9-10, in which the Redhawks finished ninth among 12 teams.
Seattle U next heads to Corvallis, Ore. for the Oregon State Invitational, held October 14-15.
