SEATTLE - For the second time in school history, the Seattle University Redhawks head to NCAA Regionals after winning the Western Athletic Conference. The Redhawks will compete in Bremerton, Washington May 12-14 at the Gold Mountain Golf Course.
Seattle U is one of 14 teams competing at the Bremerton Regional. The top five teams at that Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, as will the lowest-scoring individual not on one of those advancing teams.
The Redhawks made it to Regionals by winning the WAC for the second time in school history. Seattle U finished at +20 at that competition. Kevin Li nearly won the individual medal for the second consecutive year: the sophomore finished tied for the best score in the competition, but lost out on the individual medal on the second hole of a playoff.
Li earned All-WAC First Team in part due to that performance, becoming the first Redhawk ever to earn All-WAC First Team in each of his first two collegiate seasons. Li is the fourth Redhawk with multiple All-WAC awards in their careers, joining Nathan Cogswell, Jack Rahon, and Joe Harvie.
Marc Chandonnet also earn WAC Coach of the Year, the third such honor of his career and second with the men's team. Chandonnet has earned WAC Coach of the Year in back-to-back years, having also earned the award while helping the women's team to the WAC Championship last season.
The last time the Redhawks made NCAA Regionals was 2017. That year, Joe Harvie led the Redhawks with a 17th-place finish individually. The Redhawks took 12th as a team at that year's competition.
