ARLINGTON, Texas - A second-place showing at the UC San Diego Invitational earned Kevin Li Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week. It was Li's first career WAC Golfer of the Week award.
The sophomore was terrific at the UC San Diego Invitational, shooting +1 overall to finish second. That was Li's highest finish of the year: his last better finish came at the end of last season as Li was crowned WAC champion as a freshman. Li's performance was highlighted by a -3 under, 69 second round, his best round since his collegiate personal-best -6 under, 65 at the Palouse Collegiate earlier this season. Li now has six rounds under 70 this season.
Li has the lowest average single-round score of any Redhawk this year at 72.04. He has been under par 11 times in 24 total rounds of golf this year. No Redhawk has had a lower single-round score than Li this year: Liam Gill also has one round of -6 under, 65, matching Li's best.
The WAC weekly award is Seattle University's first since Nathan Cogswell in March 2023. Li joins Cogswell, Harrison Murphy (2022), Jack Rahon (2020, 2021, 2022), Joe Harvie (2017 & 2018), Zack Overstreet (2017), Patrick Sato (2015), Kyle Cornett (2014), and Rob Seibly (2013) as the Redhawks to earn WAC Golfer of the Week during Marc Chandonnet's tenure as head coach. Only Cogswell, Rahon, Harvie, and Sato have done so multiple times.
Li and the Redhawks will be back in action soon as they play host to the annual Seattle U Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington. That two-day competition begins on March 31.
