SEATTLE – It was an historic meet for the Seattle University Redhawks, who saw two new school records at the Husky Classic. Lilianne Hargreaves and Osaze Williams each had the fastest times in school history, with Hargreaves setting a new all-time mark in the mile and Williams in the 800m.
In addition to the record-breaking performances by Hargreaves and Williams, the Redhawks had four other new top-ten times. Azalea Groleau (mile), Seku Sanders (800m), Alisha Saucedo (800m), and Alex Jensen (800m) all recorded times that fell in the top-five all-time for SU.
Hargreaves broke Sophie Curatilo's school-record mile from 2015. Hargreaves' 4:50.32 shaved six seconds off her previous personal-best mile and beat Curatilo's previous record of 4:51.13 by almost a full second.
Hargeaves' mile wasn't the only of note for the Redhawks. Azalea Groleau ran the third-fastest mile in SU history. The junior had a 4:53.79 mile, a full ten seconds faster than her previous best indoor mile. Groleau's mile is behind only Hargreaves and Curatilo in SU history.
In the 800m, it was Sanders who first broke the SU school record with a 1:51.54, breaking Nathan Pixler's 2020 record of 1:52.39. That record would be short-lived, however, as Williams broke it in the next heat, running a 1:50.91.
Saucedo and Jensen would record the third-fastest and fourth-fastest 800m times in SU history, respectively. For Saucedo, it was a time of 2:12.31 that put her behind only Liane Swegle (2:08.35, 1976) and Maya McCabe (2:10.65, 2023) in the 800m. For Jensen, his 1:53.08 was bested only by Williams, Sanders, and Pixler.
The Redhawks head across the state to Spokane for the WAC Indoor Championships next. That two-day event will be held at The Podium and will begin February 28.
