SEATTLE - Seattle U men's soccer jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated UTRGV, 3-1, Thursday night at Championship Field. The Redhawks scored two goals within the first 15 minutes of play and added another shortly into the second half as they kept pace for the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference.

Mo Mohamed netted the first goal of the match, and his first of the season, in just the second minute of play. That was followed by Andre Philibbosian scoring his second of the season in the 15th minute as SU quickly found themselves in the drives seat. Titus Washington also added to his team-leading point total (21) for the season, helping assist both opening goals.

After Seattle U went into the halftime-break up two, Richy Lapointe-Guevara would add insurance to the lead as he scored in the 47th. It was Lapointe-Guevara's second goal in the past three games.

The Vaqueros would not go quietly into the rainy Seattle night, as they would score one to break up the shutout in the 70th. That would be all the visitors would get however, as the Redhawks secured their third straight victory.

MATCH TIMELINE:
  • 2' GOAL SU - Mo Mohamed (1): Assisted by Alex Notzka, Titus Washington
  • 15' GOAL SU - Andre Philibbosian (2): Assisted by Titus Washington
  • 47' GOAL SU - Richy Lapointe-Guevara (2): Assisted by Yeider Zuluaga
  • 71' GOAL UTRGV
The win moves the Redhawks to 9-4-3 on the season and to 6-1-1 in conference play. It also brings them even on points with San Diego State for first place in the WAC standings, with the Aztecs having a game in hand. With the Redhawk's only loss on the season coming vs SDSU, they would need two draws or one loss from them in order to have a chance at the regular season title.

Seattle U would also need to win their next match vs Grand Canyon on Sunday, Nov. 3, in order to keep their hopes at back-to-back regular season crowns alive. Kickoff between the Redhawks and Lopes is scheduled for 1pm PT. Fans are encouraged to show up early for the senior day celebration.
