ARLINGTON, Texas - The Seattle University volleyball team's pursuit of its second conference win was snuffed out by WAC frontrunner UT Arlington on Thursday night as the Mavericks took the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) at College Park Center.

The Redhawks tallied 25 kills, five aces and 25 assists on the night. Defensively, Seattle U flexed its might up front, cataloging six blocks to UT Arlington's three. Senior Arianna Bilby led the Redhawks with five kills, four digs and two blocks. Two more Redhawks, sophomore Taniyah Pruitt and junior Merima Smajlovic, notched five kills.

Smajlovic picked up two more aces, bringing her season total to 24. Freshman Grace Jones tallied two aces of her own in a pivotal run for the Redhawks as they clawed back in the third set.

Jones and redshirt sophomore Elif Teksoy led the Redhawks with nine assists a piece.

Leading both teams on the night in blocks was junior Marley Hardgrave. The middle blocker grabbed 4.0 blocks as Seattle U locked in 12 block assists on the evening. Bilby, Smajlovic, Pruitt and redshirt sophomore Yasemin Elmas were each accredited 2.0 blocks.

Reigning WAC Libero of the Week senior Katlyn Sipes extended her double digit dig streak to eight matches as she tallied 15 digs for the second match in a row.

Despite few Redhawk errors, the Mavericks collected a staggering 53 kills while forcibly cutting off the Seattle U offense. UT Arlington paced the Redhawks in kills, aces, assists and digs to defend its winning streak, while Seattle U led in blocks.

Faced with match point, the Redhawks rattled off a 4-0 scoring run to pull within three, but the comeback was cut short and the Mavericks remained perfect in WAC play.

The Redhawks return to action on Monday, Oct. 14 for a rematch with Utah Valley in Orem, Utah.
