SEATTLE - It was a strong early-season showing for the Seattle University Redhawks cross country team, which kicked off the season against nationally-ranked Washington. Azalea Groleau (18:25.15) and Dylan Irey (28:38.73) had Seattle University's top times for the women and men, respectively.
"Today was a step forward for this group," said head coach Jordana LeSavage. "We had great conditions and put in a hard effort with it so early on in our training block."
Groleau's 18:25.15 was just five seconds off of Seattle University's all-time top-20 times in the first race of the season. Finishing just behind her in the women's 5k were Lilianne Hargreaves (18:32.97) and Alisha Saucedo (18:34.58).
For the men, Irey (28:38.73) was followed by freshman Seku Sanders (28:58.64), making the top two finishers for the Redhawks both freshmen.
The Redhawks will be back in action next week, heading across the state for the Cougar Classic in Colfax, WA on September 13.
