QUICK HITS:
THREE OF THE LAST FIVE
Seattle U has played some of its best basketball over the last five contests, winning matchups against Tarleton (61-57), Southern Utah (75-71) and UTRGV (82-75).
The Redhawks sealed a seven point victory over the Vaquerous on Saturday afternoon, using a 26-17 fourth quarter score margin to take the contest. A 10-2 Seattle U run late in the fourth quarter captured the win, using a Mya Moore and one as well as a crucial three pointer from Aannah Interrante to take back the lead. Moore marked her fourth career double-double (25 points, 12 rebounds), while Irena Korolenko added 19 points of her own. Makayla Moore and Interrante chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively, to mark four double-digit scorers on the afternoon.
The Redhawks began this stretch with a fourth quarter comeback victory over the Texans on Feb. 10, outscoring Tarleton, 21-10, in the final period. SU opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run, concluding with Julianna Walker's season-high sixth made three pointer. After the Texans built a seven point lead, Peyton Howard scored nine straight points to put the Redhawks in the lead for good.
The Redhawks continued that momentum on Feb. 15 against the Thunderbirds, grabbing the lead early on into the contest and never relinquishing it. Seattle U used a 12-2 run midway through the second quarter to build a strong lead, thanks to a combined 13 points from Howard and Walker. SU had an answer for a late push by the Thunderbirds, with Makayla Moore and Walker knocking down some crucial free throws late in the final period.
Over the five game span, Seattle U has seen its scoring balance out with five players averaging in double figures. Mya Moore leads the squad at 14.8 points per game (PPG) on 50.8% from the field to go along with 7.2 rebounds per game (RPG) and 1.2 steals per game (SPG). Julianna Walker follows closely behind her at 12.5 PPG, converting on 12 made three pointers, while Makayla Moore is chipping in 11.8 PPG and adding 5 RPG. Irena Korolenko is averaging 11.2 points and 6.6 rebounds with nine made threes in this period, while Peyton Howard rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.4 point per game.

NEW LOOK ON THE BENCH
The 2023-24 Redhawks will feature a complete new look behind the bench, lead by the sixth women's basketball coach in program history, Skyler Young. Young's first staff at the helm of the Redhawks features Michael Brooks, Rachel Swartz, GeAnna Luaulu-Summers and Makala Roper.
Brooks previously coached in collegiate athletics at Bradley University, serving as head coach from 2012-16 with one season as an assistant coach (2011-12), while Swartz returned to the Pacific Northwest after spending last season at Saint Mary's and Luaulu-Summers makes the move to Seattle from University of Oregon where she served as the Ducks' director of creativity and student athlete support. Coach Young retains one familiar face in Roper as she will mark her fourth season as a member of Seattle U.
