Sauers, Jefferson Set School Records at Ken Shannon Invite

SEATTLE, WA – Seattle U track and field wrapped up their indoor season at the Ken Shannon Invite on Friday, February 23 and Saturday February 24, located at the Dempsey Indoor Center. The meet featured impressive performances from the Redhawks, most notably from grad transfer Yonas Sauers and sophomore Jamaari Jefferson.

SEATTLE, WA – Seattle U track and field wrapped up their indoor season at the Ken Shannon Invite on Friday, February 23 and Saturday February 24, located at the Dempsey Indoor Center. The meet featured impressive performances from the Redhawks, most notably from grad transfer Yonas Sauers and sophomore Jamaari Jefferson.  

Yonas Sauers continues his streak of breaking school records by crushing the previous record in the men's indoor 5k by over nineteen seconds with his time of 14:23.74. Sauers finished in second place overall in the 5k out of eight total competitors at the meet.  

Jamaari Jefferson impressed in the long jump, setting a new school record with his mark of 6.67 meter. Jefferson showed significant improvement from his previous personal best mark of 6.24 meters that he set at the WAC Championships this season.  

The Redhawks also had a number of top ten performances and seven personal bests at the meet, bringing them to a total of fifty-five personal bests set in their indoor season.  

TOP TEN INDOOR SCHOOL PERFORMANCES: 
- Yonas Sauers: 1st place in the men's 5k (14:23.74) 
- Jamaari Jefferson: 1st place in the men's long jump (6.67m) 
- Alex Jensen: Tied 3rd place in the men's 800m (1:53.85)
- Azalea Groleau: 6th place in the women's 5k (17:47.94) 
- Manthita Wague: 6th place in the women's triple jump (11.18m) 
- Gus Harquail: 7th in men's 800m (1:55.04) 
- JR Zamora: 10th place in men's triple jump (12.77m)
