OREM, Utah - Seattle U women's basketball hits the road for the final time in January, facing off with Utah Valley this Saturday. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contest will take place at the UCCU Center on the campus of Utah Valley in Orem, Utah, with tip off scheduled for 1 p.m. pacific time. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available.

SOPHOMORE STANDOUT
Makayla Moore has been playing some of her best basketball over her last five contests, averaging 17.8 points on 52.2% from the field, including eight made three pointers to go along with 5.8 rebounds per contest. 

The native of San Jose, California, has enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, setting a new career-high against UTRGV (Jan. 11) with 23 points on 11 made field goals. Over this five game span, Moore has scored at least 18 points and grabbed four rebounds in four contests, while averaging a block and a steal as well. 

NATIONAL/CONFERENCE RANKINGS
Team offensive rebounds per game (13.4) - #68 in nation & second in the WAC
Team steals per game (9.2) - #91 in nation & fifth in WAC 
Overall blocks (23) & blocks per game (1.35) - Mya Moore, second in the WAC

WAC OPENING WIN
Seattle U began Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play on a positive note, defeating Utah Valley, 58-48, for Head Coach Skyler Young's first career win at the helm on Nov. 29. Both Peyton Howard and Mya Moore led SU in scoring with 12 each, while Howard set a new career-high with seven assists and Moore tied her career-best with three blocks.

Julianna Walker made her season debut in the contest, scoring 10 points with three made three pointers to go along with three rebounds. Irena Korolenko provided a strong presence in the paint, grabbing 11 boards and marking a new career-high six steals. 

NEW LOOK ON THE BENCH
The 2023-24 Redhawks will feature a complete new look behind the bench, lead by the sixth women's basketball coach in program history, Skyler Young. Young's first staff at the helm of the Redhawks features Michael BrooksRachel SwartzGeAnna Luaulu-Summers and Makala Roper.

Brooks previously coached in collegiate athletics at Bradley University, serving as head coach from 2012-16 with one season as an assistant coach (2011-12), while Swartz returned to the Pacific Northwest after spending last season at Saint Mary's and Luaulu-Summers makes the move to Seattle from University of Oregon where she served as the Ducks' director of creativity and student athlete support. Coach Young retains one familiar face in Roper as she will mark her fourth season as a member of Seattle U.

All 14 Seattle U home contests this season will be broadcast on ESPN+. Russell Brown and former Seattle U Redhawk, Olivia Crawford, mark their second season on the call. 

SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY
The Wolverines come into this contest after winning two of their last three, defeating Utah Tech, 55-52, last Saturday and taking down UTRGV, 75-62, the weekend prior. Although Utah Valley lacks a player that averages double figures in scoring, they rank 15th in the country and lead the WAC in bench scoring (28.5). UVU leads the WAC in turnover margin (4.65), creating the most turnovers (20.65) and steals (11.6) per game. 

Dan Nielson enters his fifth season at the helm of the UVU program. The Redhawks lead the all-time series over the Wolverines, 15-11, taking down the Wolverines, 58-48, to open the WAC season at the Redhawk Center in November.
