SEATTLE, Wash. - 23rd ranked Seattle U men's soccer opened conference play with a come from behind, 5-2, victory over Utah Valley Thursday night at Championship Field. After trailing by two early on in the match, the Redhawks scored five unanswered to secure the victory.
"Great to start off conference play with a win," said head coach Nate Daligcon. "The team showed a lot of resilience coming back from a two-goal deficit."
The Redhawk rally began in the 43' when Lennard Fock was able to clean up a bouncing ball in the box off a throw in and put it away to cut the Wolverine advantage to just one. That was followed by the first goal of the night from Yeider Zuluaga in the 45', a rocket from nearly 30 yards out that beat the diving Wolverine keeper's glove for the equalizer before half.
Zuluaga's night wasn't done, as he kicked off the scoring festivities in the second half. On a ball from Jeremy Opong this time, Yeider's initial shot come off the cross bar right back to him, he took a touch off the chest before firing another one that found its way to the back of the net. It was Zuluaga's third goal of the season and the first multi-goal effort of his career.
Seattle U would add on two more insurance goals, one from James Morris and one from Habib Famuditimi, as their dominant second half performance helped them capture their conference home opener.
Match Timeline:
The five goals scored by the Redhawks was their most since putting up seven in a win over Incarnate Word back in 2020. The win also marked the third straight victory over Utah Valley and extended their unbeaten streak to five over the Wolverines.
Seattle U will be back in action on Sunday, October 1, when they host Air Force for Hawktoberfest. Kickoff between the Redhawks and Falcons is scheduled for 3pm.
