The Fewing Cup:

This will be the eighth time in the series' history that the Redhawks and Huskies will play for the Fewing Cup (previously known as the WAC/101 Club Cup). The cup is named in honor of  former head coach and current Associate Athletic Director for Special Projects, Pete Fewing. The 101 Club Foundation, which was founded in support of amateur athletics, is the presenting sponsor of the Cup. The winning team receives a donation to their soccer program courtesy of the Washington Athletic Club.

History of the Matchup:

This will be the 63rd meeting all-time between the Redhawks and Huskies on the soccer field, with the first meeting coming back in October of 1967. The Redhawks trail in the series 9-48-5 and are 3-12-1 since returning to Division 1 in 2009. Washington has won the previous four meetings.

In their last meeting the Redhawks fell 0-4 at Husky Soccer Stadium in 2022. Seattle U's last win came in 2018 when they knocked off a 18th ranked Husky squad, also at Husky Soccer Stadium. That win made it two in a row for SU, who also knocked the Huskies out of the NCAA Tournament the year prior.

Morris Magic:

James Morris is off to a blazing start to his 2023 campaign. After missing nearly all of last season due to injury, the forward from Doncaster has scored five goals and dished out three assists through eight games. He is currently tied for 1st in goals and assists in the Western Athletic Conference. He also now ranks 4th all-time in career goals scored in Redhawk program history with 21.

His hot start earned him WAC Player of the Week honors for the match week ending on Monday, Sept. 4.

Defender with an Offensive Mind:

Defender Jaden Manetta had a brace in the 2-3 loss to Loyola Marymount last Thursday. Both came off set pieces from Kotaro Hirokawa and were the first two goals of Manetta's collegiate career.

Manetta was also named WAC Defender of the Week the same week as Morris.

Pass the Rock:

Seattle U has had five different players record at least two assists this season. James Morris, Kotaro Hirokawa, Richy Lapointe-Guevara, Joon Lee, and Mo Mohamed all have multiple assists this season. Seattle U is tied with Grand Canyon for the most assists this season with 13.
