BANDON, Ore. - Seattle U men's golf concluded its third tournament of the spring on Tuesday, tying for seventh out of 18 teams at the Bandon Dunes Championship. Sophomore Liam Gill led the way for Seattle U, tying for 12th overall with a two-round total of 146 (76-70). The two-day, two round event took place at the Bandon Dunes Resort in Bandon, Oregon, on the 6,676 yards course with a par of 72. The Championship was originally scheduled to take place over three days with three rounds but round two was canceled due to hazardous conditions on Monday.
"I am really proud of our guys," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "This is one of the most competitive groups we've ever had and the battle to make the lineup is tough. We still have some work to do and areas we need to focus on such as the par fives. I am proud of the progress we are making as a group and seeing plenty of room for growth going forward."
The Redhawks played some of their best golf on the final day, holding the second lowest round score of three-under 285 and being one of four teams to finish under par. The team led the field in par four scoring (12-over) and average (4.12) and was the only squad in the entire field to have six golfers shoot par or under in the final round. Seattle U also tied for third in made birdies with 32 over the two rounds.
Graduate student Nathan Cogswell (76-72) finished two strokes behind Gill, while fellow graduate student Jack Rahon tied for fifth in par four scoring (even) and average (four) and freshman Ben Ragland tied for sixth in made birdies with eight. Senior John Morrow (82-71) fell one stroke short of tying his season-low round, while junior Blake Kukula (79-71) rounds out the Redhawks participants in this event.
Seattle U will compete in one more tournament during March, heading to the UC San Diego Invitational in La Jolla, California, from March 27-28.
