Redhawks Tie for Fifth at Grand Canyon Invitational

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U women's golf returned to the normal stroke play tournament style this week, tying for fifth out of 17 teams at the the Grand Canyon Invitational. Sophomore Shayna Lu (71-75-73) and freshman Aaryanna Morris (71-72-76) claimed spots in the top-20, posting three-round totals of three-over 219. The two-day, three-round event took place at the GCU Championship Golf Course with a par 72 and a yardage of 6,100.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U women's golf returned to the normal stroke play tournament style this week, tying for fifth out of 17 teams at the the Grand Canyon Invitational. Sophomore Shayna Lu (71-75-73) and freshman Aaryanna Morris (71-72-76) claimed spots in the top-20, posting three-round totals of three-over 219. The two-day, three-round event took place at the GCU Championship Golf Course with a par 72 and a yardage of 6,100. 

"I am really proud of how Aaryanna and Shayna performed this week," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "When they play to the level I know they can, it pushes the rest of our team to get better each day."

The Redhawks were fantastic on the par fives, leading the field in scoring (21-under) and average (4.65). Morris was the top individual on par fives with an average of 4.17 and scoring of 10-under, while Samantha Bruce finished tied for third at an average of 4.50 and scoring of six-under. 

Seattle U made the most eagles of any team over the two days, with Rivekka Jumagulova, Lu and Morris all making one each. Azumi Arai and Lu made the most pars of any individual at the tournament, converting on 41. 

Jumagulova (73-73-74) was just one stroke off a top-20 finish, while Bruce (75-73-74) finished two strokes behind her and Arai finished with a three-round total of 228 (74.76-78).

The Redhawks will be back on the course next Monday, opening play at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU, in Dallas, Texas.
