Gonzales, Cook Lead Redhawks to End WAC Championships

MCALLEN, Texas. - Seattle U swim wrapped up the WAC Championships today in Day Four of the meet. In an event full of school records and new top-ten marks in school history, the Redhawks continued to the great performances, highlighted by Jaxon Gonzales setting a new school record in the 200 Breast.

MCALLEN, Texas. - Seattle U swim wrapped up the WAC Championships today in Day Four of the meet. In an event full of school records and new top-ten marks in school history, the Redhawks continued to the great performances, highlighted by Jaxon Gonzales setting a new school record in the 200 Breast.

"I couldn't be more proud of this team" said Head Coach Joe Dykstra "They completely bought in this year and nearly everyone swam personal bests this week. The school records, the rewriting of our top ten lists, and just their competitive drive and team spirit make me so proud and excited!"

In the prelims of the 200 Breast, Gonzales had a breakthrough performance, clocking in a time of 1:57.83. The mark from Gonzales shattered his old personal best by seven seconds, and breaking the school record, which was set in 2008. Gonzales competed hard in the finals, finishing in 1:58.01 to place fifth overall in the meet and earning All-WAC Second Team honors.

Cole Lanting had two solid performances in the prelims and finals of the 100 Free. In the prelims, Lanting swam a time of 44.60, beating his old personal best of 45.17 seconds.

Lanting would go on to set a personal best again in the finals, as he would finish the race in 44.46 seconds. Lanting now owns the second fastest 100 Free time in school history, trailing behind teammate Nicholas Imig, who owns the school record.

To wrap up the meet, in the 400 Free Relay, the team of Cole Lanting, Nicholas Imig, Connor Barringer, and Theo Johansen clocked in a time of 3:01.82, which was good for seventh in school history. 

On the women's side, Sarah Cook would have an amazing performance in the 200 Back. In the prelims, Cook clocked in a new personal best of 2:14.99, which moves her up to the second on the SU all-time list in the event. Cook would then follow up with a hard fought effort of 2:15.89 to earn All WAC Second Team honors.

Sammy Mosier set two PR's in the 100 Free today. In the prelims, Mosier finsihed the race in 51.85 seconds, beating her old personal best of 51.93. Mosier would then follow up with an amaszing performance in the finals, clocking in a time of 51.43. Mosier now moves from all the way from seventh in school history in the event to fourth, and is only .05 seconds away from third.

Lydia Genson had a great performance in the 200 Back. In the finals, Genson clocked in a time of 2:02.66 in the finals, which is a new personal best, and moves her to second on the all-time list. 

The women able to finish off the meet with another top-ten all time mark in  the 400 Free Relay. The team of Maggie Robben, Sammy Mosier, Isabella Guadiamos, and Aubrey Cheng finished the race in 3:30.09. which ranks them eighth in school histoy in the event.

The Redhawks will look to continue to post season action at the National Invite Championship in Elkhart, Indiana on March 9-11.
