MCALLEN, Texas. - Seattle U men's and women's swim completed Day One of the WAC Championships, hosted by UTRGV, in McAllen, Texas. The Redhawks were able to get the championship meet started by setting a new school record in the women's 200 Medley Relay, and proceeded to set new top-ten marks in every other event they participated in.
In the 200 Medley Relay, the team of Lydia Genson, Sarah Cook, Isabella Guadiamos, and Sammy Mosier clocked in a time of 1:43.90 to set the school record in the event. This beat the previous school record of 1:44.10, which was set back in 2015.
The men also put up an impressive performance in the 200 Medley Relay, with the quartet of Emmett Moore, Jaxon Gonzales, Eric Thomure, and Nicholas Imig finishing in a time of 1:29.98. This beat their seasons best of 1:32.01 and puts them fourth on the SU top-10 list.
In the 800 Free Relay, the men's team of Michael Luna, Cole Lanting, Andres Banuelos, Connor Barringer clocked in a time of 6:40.29, which ranks them second in school history, and only .5 seconds away from the school record.
The women's 800 Free Relay team of Maggie Robben, Lydia Genson, Emilia Culberson, and Cassie Koester finished the race in 7:33.45. This beat their initial seed time by 12 seconds, and places them fifth on the SU top-10 list.
The Redhawks will look to continue the positive momentum into Day Two of the WAC Championships, with prelims starting at 8:30 AM PST, and finals at 4:00 PM PST.
