EUGENE, Ore. - Seattle U women's tennis completed a two day weekend road trip to Eugene, Oregon as they faced off against Portland State on January 21 and Oregon on January 22.
MATCH VS. PORTLAND STATE
In the first match of the weekend, the Redhawks were squared off against the Portland State Vikings. In doubles, Jade Quintana and Shuanghui Huang faced off against Elizabeth Strongina and Makoto Ohara. In a tight matchup, Quintana and Huang were unable to secure the win, as they would drop the match 4-6,
Lola Tavcar and Mireia Fehr would pair up to face Nell Arendt and Emily Rees. Tavcar and Fehr secured the win in a tight battle, taking the match in a score of 6-4.
For the doubles point, Elena Kraleva and Liliya Dimova teamed up to face Masha Ponomavera and Capu Sanoner. In a hard fought effort for the doubles point, Kraleva and Dimova fell just short, as they would drop the match 4-6, and PSU would take the double point.
In singles, Shuanghui Huang would start off by going against Maggie Edan. Huang would lose the match in identical sets of 0-6. Jade Quintana went up against Emily Rees, but would also lose her matchup 3-6, 1-6. Lola Tavcar would face off again against Nell Arendt. Although having a competitive second set, Tavcar would drop the match 1-6, 5-7.
Elena Kraleva and Liliya Dimova picked up some momentum for the Redhawks by winning the next two singles matchups. Kraleva would square off against Masha Ponomavera, and dominantly won the matchup, 6-3, 6-2. Dimova was matched up against Elizabeth Strongia. After having a close first set, Dimova would dominantly win the second set, taking the match, 7-6(5), 6-2.
The last singles matchup was Mireia Fehr, when she went up against Makoto Ohara. Fehr would finish up play with a very close match that went into a third tiebreaker set, but would unfortunately lose the match up 1-6, 7-5, 8-10.
The Redhawks would fall to the Vikings, 2-5.
MATCH VS. OREGON
In the second match of the weekend, the Redhawks faced the Oregon Ducks. In doubles play, Jade Quintana and Shuanghui Huang teamed up to go against Jo-Yee Chan and Ares Teixido Garcia, but dropped the match 0-6.
Elena Kraleva and Liliya Dimova paired up to play Uxia Martinez Moral and Sophia Luesher, but were defeated, 3-6. To end doubles play, Lola Tavcar and Mireia Fehr played Maya Petchey and Misaka Kobayashi, but did not completed their match. Oregon took the doubles point.
In singles play, Jade Quinatana faced off against Uxia Martinez Moral, but dropped the match in identical sets of 1-6. Lola Tavcar played against Ares Teixido Garcia, but also dropped her matchup 1-6, 3-6. Mireia Fehr took on Jo-Yee Chan in singles, but was defeated 1-6, 2-6. Shuanghui Huang took on Misaka Kobayashi, but would be defeated 2-6, 0-6.
Liliya Dimova picked up a dominant win over Maya Petchey. After a tight second set, Dimova took the win 6-2, 7-5. Elena Kraleva would round off singles play for the day in her match against Sophia Luesher. Kraleva was able to take the second set to a tiebreaker, but would be defeated 2-6, 6-7(5). The Redhawks would be defeated by the Ducks, 1-6.
The women will return to the court February 11 to play against George Fox.
