Women's Tennis Drops Opener to EWU

CHENEY, Wash. - Seattle U women's tennis started the 2023 campaign at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Washington to take on Eastern Washington. The Eagles came out with strong doubles play, and continued the momentum into singles play, winning 6-1.

CHENEY, Wash. - Seattle U women's tennis started the 2023 campaign at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Washington to take on Eastern Washington. The Eagles came out with strong doubles play, and continued the momentum into singles play, winning 6-1.

Lola Tavcar and Mireia Fehr did their best to earn the doubles point, defeating Renanta Gabuzyan and Kenzington Mann (7-5), however the Eagles pairing of  Isabella Foshee and Leandra Nizetic. took the other match against Elena Kraleva and Liliya Dimova to win the doubles point.

In singles play, Elena Kraleva took on Scout Matthews, but unfortunately dropped the matchup in identical sets of 3-6. The Redhawks were able to win two sets in a row, as Liliya Dimova (7-5, 7-6(2)) defeated Leandra Nizetic. Marija Elenova had a very close match with Isabella Foshee which would go to a third set, but she would gain the win and the team point (5-7, 7-6(6), 7-6(3)). 

However, the Redhawks would lose the next three sets. Lola Tavcar would take on Renata Gabuzyan, but would drop the match (5-7, 6-7(3)). Jade Quintana had a close match that would go into a super tiebreaker, but would lose to Taylor Andersen (6-4, 2-6, 11-13). To conclude the match, Shuanghui Huang would drop her match against Kenzington Mann (0-6, 0-6).

The Redhawks will take on Gonzaga next in Spokane on Saturday, January 14.
