STEALIN' THE BASKETBALL
Seattle U has recorded eight or more steals in five of its first seven games. Junior Peyton Howard leads the team in the category with 11, posting two or more in four games and logging a season-best three against Oregon State on November 10. Fellow junior Irena Korolenko recently set a new career-high in steals, taking the ball away four times against Washington in their matchup on November 30.

RETURNING TO REDHAWK CENTER
Former Redhawk assistant coaches Joddie and Skip Gleason make their first trip back to the Redhawk Center since taking the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach jobs in Cheney. Joddie Gleason finished her inaugural season with a 7-13 Big Sky record and 9-21 overall, leading Jaydia Martin to Big Sky Freshman of the Year and Jacinta Buckley to All-Conference Third Team honors.

In their tenure with the Redhawks, Seattle U achieved the program's first-ever WAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018 and finished in the top-three in scoring in the conference during the 2018, 2020 and 2021 season. The Gleason's helped coach seven WAC All-Conference selections, two WAC Freshman of the Year, two WAC Defensive Player of the Year and the 2021 Seattle Sports Commission Female Sports Star of the Year, McKenzi Williams.

BENCH IMPACT
The Redhawks' bench has provided a great scoring punch throughout the first seven games, with four different players logging points in the double-digits. Freshman Makayla Moore was the most recent to do so, finishing with a career-high 13 points against Weber State. Irena Korolenko has recorded double-digit points twice against Pac-12 opponents, scoring 13 against the Ducks and 11 against the Huskies. Both freshman Sheridan Liggett and Mya Moore put together 10 point performances earlier in the season, with the former doing so against Oregon State and the latter against UC Irvine.

Noemie Bariteau and Mya Moore finished just short of double-digits against UC Irvine, with Bariteau logging eight points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists while Moore had nine points and five rebounds.

BEST THREE-POINT PERFORMANCE
Sophomore Julianna Walker recorded the WAC's best three-point performance of the season, logging six made threes against Portland State on November 17. Only Kaylee Best has made more three-pointers in one game, draining seven at Grand Canyon back in 2017. Courtney Murphy was the last Redhawk to make six, achieving the feat three times in 2019.

Walker currently leads the Redhawks in made three-pointers with 14, while shooting 40% from distance. The Tacoma, Wash., native also poured in three three-pointers against Oregon State to open the season on November 10.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
CSUN is currently off to a slow start, opening the year on a seven game losing streak. Tess Amundsen (10.6) is the only Matador averaging double-digit points, while Jordyn Jackson (9.9) is just shy of the mark. The duo comes into this matchup after a strong scoring performance against San Diego, combining for 33 on Tuesday. All-time, the Redhawks are 2-3 against the Matadors.

Eastern Washington has started the year off nicely, currently holding a 4-2 record. The Eagles have a very balanced scoring attack with Jacinta Buckley, Jamie Loera and Jaydia Martin all averaging double-digit points. They dropped their most recent game with UC Irvine on Dec. 1, falling by two points after being down by as much as 11. Eastern Washington will take on fellow WAC opponent in Tarleton State on Saturday, before meeting with the Redhawks next week. The Redhawks claimed the most recent victory between the two Washington schools, winning by 12 points in Cheney two seasons ago to give them a 2-1 advantage all-time.
