FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Seattle U men's and women's swim completed Day One of the Husky Invitational. The Redhawks start the meet off strong by coming away with top relay finishes, multiple athletes making finals heats, as well as top finishes in the meet and top ten all-time performances.
In the very first event of the meet, the 200 Free Relay, both the women and men started off strong to come away with top team finishes. For the women, the quartet of Sammy Mosier, Aubrey Cheng, Isabella Guadiamos, and Maggie Robben finished the relay race in 1:37.13 to take third place. In the men's race, the team of Michael Luna, Nicholas Imig, Cole Lanting, and Connor Barringer took first place, as they would clock in a time of 1:21.92. The effort from the four men was one for the record books, as their time is now the fourth fastest in SU history.
The Redhawks had a total of 21 individuals make final heats in Day One of the meet. On the women's side, Sarah Cook and Maggie Robben both had historic performances in the 200 IM Final. Cook took third place in the race, clocking in a time of 2:04.29, while Robben would finish fourth overall in a time of 2:05.24. Both Cook and Robben would have top-ten SU all time SU performances, as Cook is now second all time in school history, and Robben is now fourth all time.
On the men's side, Cole Lanting would have a stellar performance in the 200 IM as well. Lanting would take first overall in the race, finishing with a time of 1:49.21. The effort from Lanting places him second all time in SU history, and he is only one tenth of a second away from the school record, held by Jakub Jicarek.
Nicholas Imig also had a strong performace in the 50 Free. Imig would take the win, clocking in a time of 20.25 in the finals. In the prelims of the 50 Free, Imig swum a time of 20.12, and his time in the prelims ties him for second all time in SU history, tying him with now assistant coach, Greg Raper.
To finish the meet, the Redhawks would continue to their success in the relay events as both the men and women would also take top team finishes in the 400 Free Relay. On the women's side, the team of Lydia Genson, Sarah Cook, Isabella Guadiamos, and Sammy Mosier would take second, as the team would work together to finish in a time of 3:50.11. In the men's race, William Corona, Brendan Ryan, Cole Lanting, and Nicholas Imig would finish third with a time of 3:22.34.
The Redhawks will continue competition in Day Two of the Husky Invitational on December 3.
