ARLINGTON, Tex. - Seattle U women's golf graduate student Samantha Bruce has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Golfer of the Month, for October, the WAC announced on Thursday.

"Samantha has grown exponentially as a player and a person in her time at Seattle U," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "Her leadership both on and off the course is something that does not go unnoticed. It has been very rewarding to watch her achieve her dreams and see the impact she has on those around her."

The native of Makati City, Philippines, earns the award after two top-15 finishes and a scoring average of 71.66 in two tournaments. Bruce continued her strong start to the season into October, tying for 13th overall out of 112 golfers at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Classic. She concluded the fall season with her third top-five finish of the fall, tying for fifth overall with a three-round total of 211 (72-71-68) at The Clash at Boulder Creek last week.

Bruce has had a very successful fall season, claiming top-15 finishes in all five tournaments and breaking school records for lowest round (64), lowest round vs. par (8-under), lowest 36 hole total (137) and lowest 54 hole total (210) at the Green Wave Classic.

For the 2021-22 All-WAC First Team member, this is her first WAC monthly honor of the season and career.

Seattle U will open the spring season at the Wyoming Match Play Championships in Palm Desert, California, from Feb. 13-14.
