NEW ORLEANS, La. - Seattle U women's golf concluded its opening tournament of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday, finishing 10th out of 14 teams at the Tulane Green Wave Classic. Graduate student Samantha Bruce started the season with a historic performance, setting a new school record for lowest round (64), lowest round vs. par (8-under), lowest 36 hole total (137) and lowest 54 hole total (210). The two-day event took place at Bayou Oaks at City Park in New Orleans, La., on the 6,158 yards course with a par of 72.
"I am extremely proud of Sam and appreciative of her commitment to excellence," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "This level of golf is a culmination of all her hard work and just a taste of what she is capable of."
The 2022 All-WAC First Team member began the tournament with a phenomenal round, converting five birdies on the back nine to go along with seven overall plus an eagle. Bruce finished tied for 11th with a three-round total of six-under 210 (64-73-73).
Sophomore Rivekka Jumagulova (77-70-72) performed at her best in round two after a slow start, while senior Azumi Arai (75-78-74) followed with a strong performance in round three. Freshman Aaryanna Morris (73-77-78) made her collegiate debut and sophomore Annika Cruz rounds out the team score with a three-round total of 232 (76-79-77).
The Redhawks will have a quick turnaround from here, returning to action in five days at the Gonzaga Invitational in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.
