BEAUMONT, Tex. - Seattle U women's tennis advanced to the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament, defeating UTRGV 4-3 on Friday. Freshman Elena Kraleva (7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-1) sends the Redhawks to the next round after a victory over Barbara Martinez to break the three all tie. The WAC quarterfinal match was played at Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center in Beaumont, Texas.

#5 Seattle U opened the match by claiming the doubles point. Junior Jade Lancaster and freshman Mireia Fehr (6-3) earned their third straight victory as a pairing over Marjorie Souza and Barbara Martinez to open the match, while senior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria and freshman Jade Quintana (3-6) fell to Kristyna Mamicova and Sandra Putz to tie the doubles match at one. All-WAC Second Team pairing of freshman Liliya Dimova and Kraleva (6-4) continued WAC play undefeated, defeating Barbara Martinez and Marjorie Souza to take the doubles point.
In singles play, UTRGV would tie the dual match three times before Kraleva eventually sealed the victory. Quintana was first match to finish, falling to Karren Lea (1-6, 0-6), but Fehr (0-6, 6-1, 6-3) claimed her ninth win of the year over Bahr to put SU back in the lead. Alvarez Sanabra (6-4, 4-6, 0-6) would drop her match against Stefanie Wilske via tiebreaker, while Dimova (1-6, 6-1, 6-4) picked up her fifth singles victory against Souza. Lancaster (5-7, 6-7 (6-8)) would fall to Putz on court six before Kraleva clinched the dual victory on court four.
The Redhawks advance to the semifinals of the WAC Tournament, facing off against Abilene Christian at 10 a.m. pacific time in the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.
