KERRVILLE, Texas - Seattle U women's golf travels to Kerrville, Texas, on Monday to compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships at Riverhill Country Club. The three-day, 54 hole event will be held from Apr. 18-20 on 6,196 yards course with a par of 72.

Joining this year's event are WAC newcomers Lamar, Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin, while Chicago State returns to team scoring after only having individuals compete last season. Returning this year are 2021 WAC Champions New Mexico State, along with Grand Canyon, Utah Valley and UTRGV. California Baptist, Dixie State and Tarleton are ineligible for the team title due to the transition to NCAA Division I but will have individuals competing for medalist honors. According to the 2022 WAC Coaches Poll, Seattle U is picked to finish fourth overall out of nine teams, including one first place vote.

SU enters the WAC Championships after one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Redhawks claimed two team titles in one season for the first time in program history, winning the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational and The Mountain Classic Match Play. This year's team currently ranks first in scoring average (295.57), par three scoring (3.1555), par five scoring (5.0381) and second in par four scoring (4.2667) in team history.

Traveling with the team will be graduate student Keisha Lugito, senior Samantha Bruce, junior Azumi Arai and Megan Kelly and freshman Annika Cruz and Samantha Yates with the team lineup not yet set.

"Recent news forces our two top freshman out of the lineup," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "This is a huge hit to our team but at the same time this is a great opportunity for others to shine. Every member of this team works extremely hard, shows up everyday and is ready to compete when their name is called."

A 2020-21 All-WAC Second Team member, Samantha Bruce, continued to be a strong presence in the SU lineup. The native of Makati City, Philippines, is playing her best golf at the right time, finishing in the top-15 at three of the last four tournaments. Bruce's best performance of the season came at the Grand Canyon Invitational where she tied for second out of 103 individuals. After shooting a three-over 75 in round one, Bruce improved in both rounds two (two-under 70) and three (three-under 69) to finish with a three-round total of 214.

In her fifth season as a Redhawk, Keisha Lugito demonstrated her experience. The Walnut, California, native finished in the top-five at both the Aggie Invitational and Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird. Lugito tied the lowest 36-hole total in a tournament with her score of six-under 138 in her third-place finish at the Aggie Invitational and earned WAC Golfer of the Week honors for her performance at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird.. She also set the second lowest round total in program history at 67 in the third round at The Clash at Boulder Creek.
