PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U women's tennis begins its second and final Western Athletic Conference (WAC) cluster Thursday in Phoenix, Arizona, with two matches to end the regular season.
The Redhawks start the weekend against Dixie State on Thursday at 2 p.m., while the regular season concludes against New Mexico State Friday with doubles play opening the match at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place at the GCU Tennis Facility and will not feature live streaming or live stats.
Seattle U can clinch the West Division's third seed at the WAC Tournament with a victory in either matchup this weekend.
Last time out, junior Jade Lancaster (6-7, 6-4, 7-6) secured a tiebreaker set victory over Katarina Dukic to give the Redhawks a 4-3 senior day win against Chicago State. SU opened the match by claiming the doubles point, thanks to victories by the pairings of freshman Liliya Dimova and Elena Kraleva and seniors Hannah Grossman and Jillian Rasmussen. After starting singles play down 3-1 in the dual score, victories from freshman Mireia Fehr and Dimova kept the Redhawks in the match. Lancaster's victory gave Seattle U its first WAC dual match victory of the season.
Freshman Mireia Fehr was named WAC Singles Athlete of the Month for September after taking three victories in the Red bracket at the WSU Cougar Classic. Fehr defeated Utah State's Brooke Demerath in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-2, and followed up that performance with another strong victory against Montana's Aili Hietala by a score of 6-1, 6-1. She claimed the tournament championship with a victory over Portland State's Majo Hernandez, 6-2, 6-2.
