Bruce Ties for Second at GCU Invitational

Seattle U women's golf wrapped up play on Tuesday at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, finishing in fourth out of 20 teams. Senior Samantha Bruce led the way for the Redhawks, tying for second place overall with a 2-under 214 (75-70-69). The Redhawks posted a team score of 13-over 877, with their best round of 288 coming in round two. The event took place at GCU Championship Golf Course on the 6,171 yards course with a par of 72.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U women's golf wrapped up play on Tuesday at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, finishing in fourth out of 20 teams. Senior Samantha Bruce led the way for the Redhawks, tying for second place overall with a 2-under 214 (75-70-69). The Redhawks posted a team score of 13-over 877, with their best round of 288 coming in round two. The event took place at GCU Championship Golf Course on the 6,171 yards course with a par of 72. 

"Samantha does a great job of being our captain through leading by example," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "She is an extremely hard worker, and I am proud to be a part of her success. I believe that with the right mindset, Sam has the capability to play like this every week."

Bruce tied for second in par five scoring with 5-under and averaged 4.58, while also tying for fourth in made birdies with 11. This is the best finish so far of the year for the 2020-21 All-WAC Second Team member. 

Graduate student Keisha Lugito (78-73-70) finished behind Bruce, performing at her best in the final round to tie for 19th, while freshman Rivekka Jumagulova (74-75-73) finished just one stroke behind her. Junior Azumi Arai (75-70-81) tied with Bruce for fourth in made birdies, while freshman Shayna Lu rounds out Seattle U's team score with a three-round total of 230 (76-77-77).

Seattle U's next tournament will take them to St. George, Utah, for the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah, from Mar. 10-12. Last year, Bruce led the Redhawks in the shortened tournament, tying for 11th.
