LA JOLLA - Seattle U baseball split games two and three of a four game series with UC San Diego, taking down the Tritons 8-3 in the second as they picked up the first win of the 2022 campaign.
Game 1: Seattle U 10, UC San Diego 22
Seattle U jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a Matt Boissoneault double brought Gavin Rork home in the first inning. The Tritons would quickly take the lead in the second as they scored two and would lead the rest of the way, scoring in every inning except for the second.
The Redhawks were outhit 21-10 in the first matchup and committed a costly six errors.
A Shane Jamison 2-run homerun in the 5th inning sparked an SU comeback that saw the team score four runs over the next two innings. It was not enough however as UC San Diego would score a combined 10-runs in the 6th and 7th as they secured the 22-10 victory.
Peter Chronowski got the start for the Redhawks in game 1, going three innings while giving up five hits and five runs while striking out two.
Game 2: Seattle U 8, UC San Diego 3
The Redhawks took first inning lead for the third time in the series, but were able to hold on for the win in game three. Jamison continued his big day at the plate, picking up an RBI single in the first inning and eventually coming around to score on a Derek Gellos base hit.
UCSD got one back in the bottom of the inning with a solo homerun, but had any momentum squashed by a great start by Brady Liddle. The sophomore went four innings while only giving up one run on four hits and striking out five.
The bats would extend the lead in the third, when Jamison would hit a solo shot to bring his RBI total for the day to four. A 2-RBI double by Boissoneault would make it 6-1 in favor of the Redhakws, before he came around to score on a single by Connor O'Brien.
Jarrod Billig and Nathan Mirochnick would combine to only give up two runs on one hit over the final five innings out of the bullpen as the Redhawks picked up their first win of the new campaign with a final score of 8-3.
The Redhawks will look to get the series split tomorrow in the finale against the Tritons. First pitch between Seattle U and UC San Diego is scheduled for noon, with Alex Jemal getting his first start of the season for SU. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
