RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Seattle U cross country heads to Riverside, California, on Saturday to compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships. The event will be held at the UC Riverside Agricultural Operations course with the men's 8k starting at 9 a.m. and the women's 6k beginning at 10 a.m.
Competing in this year's conference championships will be runners from California Baptist, Chicago State, Dixie State, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, Tarleton, UTRGV and Utah Valley. They will also be joined by runners from the four WAC newcomers in Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin.
Of the WAC newcomers, three have men's teams that rank within the top-15 of the South-Central Region, according to the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Association (USTFCCCA). Lamar ranks the best at 9th, while Abilene Christian sits at 13th and Sam Houston State is right behind them at 14. On the women's side, Abilene Christian also joins the conference with the second ranked team in the South-Central Region.
Seattle U's women's team enters this race after a great performance at the Lewis & Clark Invite on October 16. Redshirt sophomore Rowan Cuadrado and sophomore Emily Harris lead this group, while the entire squad has shown steady improvement each race.
Freshman Giuliano Scasso leads the men's side, while redshirt freshman Jay Grant and redshirt junior James Parker round out the top three for a squad that has shown consistent improvement all season.
