BEAUMONT, Texas  – It was a block party for the Seattle U Redhawks, who had a season-high 14 blocks but fell in four sets to UTRGV, 26-28, 25-13, 18-25, 20-25. Julia Queiroz led the way, putting up ten blocks, her second career double-digit block performance. The last Redhawk with more blocks in a match was Maja Stojanovic, who had an 11-block performance in 2017.
 
Queiroz became the third Redhawk ever to record 30 solo blocks in their career. It was the fourth time this year Queiroz has recorded multiple solo blocks after entering the year with zero such matches in her career. Queiroz also moved to sixth in Redhawk history in total blocks, passing Janet Beckerman.
 
Six different Redhawks recorded multiple blocks in the match. Queiroz and Lauren McCabe each had two solo blocks, McCabe's first match with multiple solo blocks this year and fifth of her career.
 
Sierra Bartley and Sofia Sanchez each had 16 kills for the Redhawks, leading the team. Darian Goins came one assist away from a 20-assist night, her second straight 19-assist match. Goins would also record 12 digs, giving her her third double-double this season.
 
Kylie Waters and Katlyn Sipes each had double-digit digs as well. Waters led the team with 15, while Sipes recorded ten. Kailee Kurokawa had nine digs and three service aces.
 
The Redhawks have one more game in Texas this weekend, facing off with Lamar tomorrow at 8:00 am PT on the WAC Digital Network.

  • Queiroz joined Martina Samadan and Jordan Keller as the only Redhawks with 30+ solo blocks.
  • Bartley has 10+ kills in three consecutive matches.
  • Bartley also had her third match with 5+ blocks this season.
  • Goins now has double-digit assists in 14 straight matches.
  • Ezgi Ozkan had the second-most kills of her career, behind only a seven-kill performance against Dixie State on February 22, 2021.
  • Kurokawa's three aces matches her career high, set in 2018.
