COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Seattle U women's golf wrapped up play at the Gonzaga Invitational on Tuesday, finishing sixth place out of 17 teams. The Redhawks posted a team score of 33-over, with their best round of 294 coming in the first and third round. SU posted the best par three scoring of the entire field with a score of 5-over and an average scoring of 3.07. The three-day event took place at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on the 6,051 yards course with a par of 71.
The best performer of the group was freshman Rivekka Jumagulova as she demonstrated great consistency, leading to a tie for third place finish with a shot total of 214 (70-73-71). Jumagulova finished with the best par three scoring as an individual with an average of 2.73 and a score of 4-under.
"I am excited for Rivekka as she has been able to adapt quickly to competing at this level," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "Her finish this week proves that she will be very competitive with her peers this year".
Senior Samantha Bruce (73-78-69) was the next best Redhawk, earning another top-20 finish after a great third round, while freshman Shayna Lu (74-72-76) finished just three strokes behind her. Junior Azumi Arai (78-75-78) made her season debut, while freshman Maria Fedorowycz rounds out the Seattle U team score with a three-round total of 232 (77-76-79).
The lone individual for Seattle U, graduate student Keisha Lugito, finished with a three-round total of 227 (80-77-70).
"The women are off to a great start this fall," said Chandonnet. "Our stats are providing us with some clarity that we will use to improve as a group and I can use to improve my coaching. Great job to all our players for their hard work, I see a lot of really great things happening for us and we are having tons of fun doing it."
Seattle U will be back in action from October 4-6 at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., at the Red Hawk Golf Club.
