Seattle – Seattle U track and field plans to host its senior day on Friday at the West Seattle Stadium in a dual meet with Seattle Pacific. Field events begin at 2:00 p.m., while races on the track start at 3:00 p.m. The meet is closed to the general public, but live stats will be available. Seattle University Athletics would like to recognize the nine graduating seniors from the track and field program.
Returning to the state of Washington after competing in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field for four years at Lipscomb University, Andrew Ayers participated in one season of cross country, indoor and finishes his SU career with this season of outdoor track and field. The Edmonds, Wash., native currently serves as a member of the track and field team's leadership committee and will be graduating with a master's degree in Sports Business Leadership.
Taking advantage of his fifth year of eligibility, Kailan Claiborne returned to Seattle U to continue his studies. Claiborne ranks seventh and ninth all-time in Redhawk's track and field history for the outdoor and indoor triple jump. The native of San Francisco, Calif., has run the 200, 400, 400 relay and 1600m relay in his five years at Seattle University. Claiborne has also been heavily active in the Racial Equity Group that was established this past spring and serves as a mentor for the Redhawk Academic Mentorship Program (RAMP) where he tutors students at Washington Middle School. He graduates with a bachelor's degree in arts communication and media with business administration and humanities minor.
A two-time academic All-WAC winner, Devin Hasty also holds the ninth all-time indoor time for the 800m. The Phoenix, Ariz., native has raced in cross country, 1500m and 1600m relays and will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.
A three-time academic All-WAC winner, Kyle Kennedy also holds the eighth all-time steeplechase time. Over his three years at Seattle U, Kennedy has scored in the 3000m steeplechase, indoor 5000m and outdoor 10k at the WAC championships, earning All-WAC honors three times. The native of Centennial, Colo. was involved with SAAC, a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economic Honor Society and will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with majors in business analytics and economics.
A transfer from the University of Colorado, Nathan Pixler spent three years as a Redhawk. In his time at Seattle U, Pixler set a school record in the indoor 800m, ranks second all-time in the indoor mile, ranks fifth all-time in the outdoor 800m and ranks seventh all-time in the outdoor 1500m. He is also a part of the ninth ranked all-time 4x400 indoor relay team, third all-time indoor distance medley relay team and seventh all-time outdoor 4x400m relay team. Pixler is a three-time academic All-WAC winner and was named on the 2020 indoor All-WAC second team, 2019 indoor All-WAC first team and Seattle U's 2019 outdoor track and field most outstanding male. He has also won the WAC athlete of the week award twice for his performances in cross country (2018) and indoor track (2020). Pixler completed his undergraduate degree last year and is in the process of finishing his Bridge MBA at SU.
The 2017-2018 Seattle University male freshman of the year, Lance Slichko is seventh all-time in the indoor mile and tenth all-time in the outdoor 1500m and 3000m. Slichko has scored in the indoor mile, DMR and outdoor 1500m at the WAC Championships. The Puyallup, Wash., native is currently a member of the Track and Field Leadership committee and graduates from SU with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He previously served as Seattle U's ASCE secretary, on the Student Advisory Board and was a member of the SU engineering concrete canoe team.
A native of Boise, Idaho, Megan Delorey spent four years as a Redhawk. Delorey has been a consistent top seven runner in cross country and ran the indoor mile, 3000m and outdoor 5k. Delorey has worked in athletics all four years for SU's game management operations for home games in soccer, basketball and volleyball. She will be graduating with a degree in sociology.
A transfer from the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, Michaela Moore accomplished a lot in her three years as a Redhawk. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native and 2020 indoor Academic All-WAC winner is second all-time in the 60m indoors, eighth all-time in the 200m indoor, fourth all-time in the 100m, sixth all-time in the 200m outdoor and a part of the school record 4x100 relay team. Moore has also been involved as the Creative Director for Student Engagement Activities Council and was formerly a staff reporter for the SU's school newspaper, The Spectator. Moore will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Business Administration degree with a major in marketing.
The program record holder for the 60m hurdles and 100m hurdles, Michelle Newblom has achieved so much in her five years at Seattle U. The native of Reno, Nevada and a four-time academic All-WAC winner, ranks seventh all-time in the indoor 60m and 400m hurdles, ninth all-time in the indoor 200m and tenth all-time in the 100m. Newblom is also a part of the school record 4x400 indoor relay team, 4x100m relay team and was named to the All-WAC second team for the 2020 Indoor track and field season. She has also won WAC athlete of the week award twice for her performances in outdoor track (2018) and indoor track (2020). Newblom also has had the role of sports editor, copy chief and editor in chief for the Seattle U school newspaper and was the student editor for the Seattle University Research Journal (SUURJ). Newblom graduated Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in creative writing last year and completes a certificate in public administration this year.
SU Athletics would also like to honor Courtney Gelmini, Nicole Golba, Rachel Kastama and Elle Stein. Gelmini graduates with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a specialization in elementary teaching, while Golba graduates with a degree in strategic communications and a minor in psychology. Kastama earns her degree in mechanical engineering and Stein graduates with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.
