SEATTLE – Seattle University men's soccer used a second-half explosion to beat Incarnate Word, 7-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks scored five goals in less than 15 minutes, including a Noe Meza hat trick, to take the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match at rainy Championship Field.

The seven goals are the most by SU in its Division I program history. Its six second-half goals are also a D1 program high.

The visitors scored first, but Seattle U responded with a tying score in the 13th minute. Jesse Ortiz sent in a corner kick and a loose-ball scramble ended up at Alex Acton-Petronotis' feet. He settled the ball and fired a shot past the UIW goalkeeper to level the match at 1. The Redhawks outshot the visitors, 9-2, in the first half, but the score remained even after 45 minutes.

Early in the second half, James Morris was taken down in the box, setting up a penalty kick try in the 50th minute. Meza stepped forward and lined a shot into the net for a 2-1 advantage. The score opened the floodgates for Seattle U, as the hosts followed with five more goals in the half.

In the 58th minute, an SU corner kick came into the box, where the Redhawks tried two shots that were blocked. Abdel Kuku gained possession and laced a shot into the lower left corner of the net to make it 3-1.

Just over two minutes later, Meza scored again. Edwin Aquino arced a high ball ahead to Brad Kurtz on the left side. Kurtz rushed forward and booted a cross towards the net, where Meza slid in and finished for the brace and a 4-1 margin.

SU continued to pour it on as James Morris looked to shoot through traffic. Meza was there to redirect the ball into the back of the net for the hat trick in the 62nd minute.

The barrage went on as Habib Barry one-touched a laser in for a 6-1 lead in the 65th minute. Jesse Ortiz capped scoring a terrific shot into the upper left corner in the 80th minute.

SU held a 21-5 advantage in shots and an 11-2 margin in corner kicks.
