McCabe, Franklin Headline List of Redhawks on National Rankings

SEATTLE, Wash. - After a strong first weekend, Seattle U track and field now has 30 marks that rank in the Top 95 of the nation and 38 in the west region.

SEATTLE, Wash. - After a strong first weekend, Seattle U track and field now has 30 marks that rank in the Top 95 in the nation and 38 in the west region.

The Redhawks are lead by freshman Maya McCabe and Alex Franklin who both rank in the Top 35 in the 800m. McCabe, who ranks seventh in the west region and eighth in the nation, was one of Seattle U's best performers over the weekend, finishing with a time of 2:11.77 and taking home first place. Franklin also put together a strong showing in the men's 800m as he finished in second place with a time of 1:57.31, ranking him at 29th in the west region and 31st in the nation. 

Other notable athletes with rankings on the track are junior Tricht Jocelyn, sophomore Ansel Pendley-Griffin and senior Michelle Newblom as they all have a ranking at 35th or 36th nationally. Jocelyn started the day by taking home first place in the 100m dash with a time of 12.24, which ranks 15th in the west region and 35th in the nation. She later went on to win the 200m dash with a time of 25.45, which ranks 20th in the west region and 65th in the nation. Pendley-Griffin finished with a time of 3:58.742 in the 1500m, ranking him at 30th in the west region and 35th in the nation while Newblom sits at 20th in the west region and 36th in the nation with a time of 14.91 in the 100m hurdles.

Sophomore Nicole Whittern and freshman Xavier Kelley were the highest ranking Redhawks in the field events with scores good enough to be in the Top 50. Whittern finished with her best throw at 40.37m, which ranks 21st in the west region and 33rd in the nation, while Kelley's best jump of 13.11m in the triple jump was good enough for 30th in the west region and 46th in the nation.
