HOUSTON – Seattle University men's soccer won, 3-0, at Houston Baptist on Saturday afternoon. James Morris, Habib Barry, and Deniz Dogan each scored as Akili Kasim made five saves for the shutout in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) road win.

"It was a good win," said SU Coach Pete Fewing. "We had three good goals today. The second goal was terrific with the buildup. It's always great to get a shutout."

To start the second half, the Redhawks (2-1-0, 1-1-0 WAC) almost immediately put the Huskies under duress. In the 48th minute, SU pushed forward on the right side. Jesse Ortiz sent in a cross that found the head of Dogan on the back post. He headed back towards the middle of the box, where Morris leapt and finished with his head for a 1-0 lead.

The Redhawk defense forced a turnover that led to a breakout with Dogan carrying the ball ahead. He crossed midfield and found Barry, who spun and hit Morris behind the HBU backline. Morris sprinted in and was denied by the Huskies' goalkeeper, but Barry was right there to touch in the second goal of the day in the 63rd minute.

Another takeaway by SU resulted in the final goal of the match. A tackle allowed Hal Uderitz to gain possession and pass ahead to Dogan. Dogan beat the defense and got space to launch a 20-yard shot into the back of the net to clinch the final score.

Kasim tallied five stops for his 11th career shutout.

The first half was played largely in the midfield, with each side unable to connect deeper into the backlines for much of the frame. Through 45 minutes, there were only four shots attempted between the sides.

The Redhawks will host Portland on Sunday, Feb. 21, in their next match. The non-conference contest is slated for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Championship Field.
