Baseball Splits Twin Bill, Series with Pacific

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Seattle U split its series-ending doubleheader on Sunday with Pacific and as a result the series. The Redhawks (5-6) took the opener, 4-3, in come-from-behind fashion, but fell cold in the night cap, falling 17-1.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Seattle U split its series-ending doubleheader on Sunday with Pacific and as a result the series. The Redhawks (5-6) took the opener, 4-3, in come-from-behind fashion, but fell cold in the night cap, falling 17-1.

Seattle U returns to action next weekend as they visit the Gem State and visit Boise State for a four-game set. 

GAME 1: Seattle U 4, Pacific 3
Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Chase Wells drove Julian Kodama in from second for the first Redhawk run of the day. Kodama reached on a lead off double. Nolan Jekich then registered a pinch-hit RBI with a slap-single through left side, scoring Wells for the tying run.

Pacific responded in the sixth scoring an unearned run and taking a one-run lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, Seattle U notched a two-run rebuttal, taking a 4-3 advantage, as Wells connected on a two-out tripled to right-center, scoring Justin Mazzone and Austin Lively on play. Lively reached on a walk, while Mazzone found the hole in the right side of the infield for a single. 

Reliever Brandon Jenkins slammed then slammed the door on the Tigers to secure the victory.

Jenkins (1-0) was credited with his first career win as a Redhawk. The junior was held Pacific scoreless in 1.2 innings of work, while striking out two. Starter Alex McBee tossed 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while tallying two strikeouts. Max Cuenca (1.1 IP) also made a relief appearance for Seattle U.

Pacific reliever Landon Curtis was dealt the loss, allowing two runs on two hits, while starter Hayden Pearce tossed 5.0 innings and surrendered two runs on four hits.

GAME 2: Seattle U 1, Pacific 17
Seattle U struggled on both sides of the ball in the night cap, surrendering a season-high 20 hits and series-low five hits, while leaving 11 runners stranded and batting .077 with runners in scoring position.

Lively, Dylan Gerard, Trevor Antonson, Mazzone and Kodama finished with a hit apiece. 

Redhawk starter Josh Thompson (1-1) was given the loss, as Pacific scored seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in the righty's 2.2 innings. Relievers Desmond Parisotto and Kohl Peterson then combined to conceded 10 runs on 10 hits over the three innings of work. Marvcus Guarin (2.1 IP) and Alex Jemal (1.0 IP) held Pacific scoreless in their respective appearances. 

The lone Redhawk run came in the third as Lively scored on a Mazzone-single to right-center. 

Pacific took a 7-1 lead through three innings, scoring three in the second and four in the third. It then added two in the fourth before plating four runs in the fifth and sixth.
