NEWS AND NOTES
• The Redhawks put together a strong first quarter at New Mexico State, scoring 23 points, but the Aggies rallied for a 75-55 win on Jan. 17.
• Madeline Dopplick led SU with 13 points in her first appearance off the bench this season. Kamira Sanders tallied 11 points and Olivia Crawford logged 10 points.
• The Seattle U defense forced 21 NM State turnovers and held the Aggies to 1-9 accuracy from three-point range in the WAC game.
• UTRGV is coming off a 57-55 loss to Utah Valley on Thursday. Jordan Holland scored at the buzzer to lift the Wolverines to a 4-0 start in WAC action.
• Nichele Hyman paced a balanced Vaquero attack with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench. Madison Northcutt recorded 10 points and 12 boards in 24 minutes.
• On the season, Idil Turk leads UTRGV with 10.2 points per game. Quynne Huggins is next with 9.6 points per contest, while Northcutt is averaging 8.4 points and 8.2 rebounds a game.
• The Vaqueros are 2-2 in WAC play, having beaten California Baptist and Grand Canyon, while losing to CSU Bakersfield and UVU.
• SU held a halftime lead for a fifth straight game, but eventually fell, 58-55, to Utah Valley on Jan. 12. Joana Alves led with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Carla Bieg matched her career high with 15 points.
• The Redhawks scored 25 points in the first quarter against UVU, their most in an opening period this season. In the frame, SU made five three-pointers.
• Seattle U played the longest game in its program history on Jan. 5, falling in a 74-73 triple overtime heartbreaker to Grand Canyon at the Redhawk Center.
• The game is tied for the second-longest in WAC history. SMU and TCU played a four-overtime game in 1997. There have now been eight three-overtime games involving a WAC school and five in conference play.
• Kamira Sanders led the Redhawks with 16 points, a career-high 14 rebounds, and eight assists in a career-high 48 minutes.
• The Redhawks led at halftime for the third straight game, but CSU Bakersfield rallied for a 70-60 win in the WAC opener on Jan. 3.
• Freshman Courtney Murphy sank 6-7 three-point tries on her way to 18 points in her Redhawk debut. It’s the second-most threes in SU’s Division I history, as Kaylee Best made seven treys at Grand Canyon on Feb. 16, 2017.
• SU held its largest lead of the season and led by five entering the fourth period at UC Irvine on Dec. 29, but the Anteaters claimed a 65-60 decision in the Redhawks’ final non-conference outing of the regular season.
• Joana Alves was named WAC Player of the Week after tallying 29 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots at UC Irvine on Dec. 29. The junior set career highs in six statistical categories on her way to earning her first conference honor.
• Seattle U led at Nevada at halftime, but the Wolf Pack came away with a 67-54 victory on Dec. 20. Carla Bieg scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Redhawks. The junior hit all five of her field-goal attempts, including three three-pointers, off the bench.
• SU dropped a 60-50 decision to Cal Poly on Dec. 17. Madeline Dopplick scored a career-high 18 points, hitting five three-pointers, to lead the Redhawks on Kids Day at the Redhawk Center.
• The game against Cal Poly marked the debut of junior Olivia Crawford. The Hawai’i transfer is now eligible after sitting out due to NCAA transfer rules to this point. She started all 30 games as a freshman at Hawai’i, helping her squad win the Big West Tournament title.
• Seattle U fell, 76-59, at UC Davis on Dec. 9. Joana Alves scored 16 points to lead three Redhawks in double figures.
• Seattle U took a 75-61 setback at Pacific on Dec. 6. Kamira Sanders led with 20 points, including a career-high three three-pointers. Freshman Sarah Rahon scored a career-high 12 points in the contest.
• Seattle U fell to Pepperdine, 78-64, on Dec. 2 at the Redhawk Center. Kamira Sanders led with 19 points and six rebounds. Joana Alves compiled 17 points and six boards.
• SU hung with Washington on Nov. 30, but the Huskies pulled out a 69-58 game at the Redhawk Center.
• Kamira Sanders led the Redhawks with 17 points. She matched her career high with nine rebounds to go with six assists and four steals.
• Seattle U took an 89-62 setback at Utah on Nov. 26. Eight different players scored, led by Joana Alves’ career-high 16 points.
• SU fell at Portland State, 68-43, on Nov. 24. Leilia Orji scored a career-high 11 points off the bench, while Kamira Sanders and Joana Alves added 11 points apiece.
• SU dropped a 67-51 decision at Hawai’i in the 2018 Bank of Hawai’i Classic on Nov. 18. Kamira Sanders scored 18 points in the contest at the Stan Sheriff Center.
• Kamira Sanders was named Bank of Hawai’i Classic All-Tournament Team. She scored 30 points across two outings in the event.
• SU fell, 84-54, to Arizona in the first game of the 2018 Bank of Hawai’i Classic on Nov. 16. Delaney McCann scored a career-high 12 points in the contest.
• The Redhawks dropped a 65-58 contest to Northern Arizona on Nov. 9 at the Redhawk Center. Kamira Sanders scored a game-high 21 points, while Joana Alves posted career highs in points (15) and rebounds (11).
• For the second straight game, SU led late in the fourth period only to see its opponent rally to pull out a win.
• Junior Carla Bieg made her first career start and scored a career-high nine points against NAU.
• The Redhawks led Cal State Fullerton late in the fourth quarter on Nov. 6, but the Titans pulled out a 57-54 decision on opening night at the Redhawk Center.
• Joana Alves scored a then-career-high 13 points to lead four Redhawks in double figures. Madeline Dopplick tallied 11 points, while Kamira Sanders and Delaney McCann added 10 points and six rebounds apiece.
• Madeline Dopplick scored 19 points to lead SU to an exhibition win over Northwest University on Nov. 2. All nine active Redhawks scored in the contest at the Redhawk Center.
• Coach Suzy Barcomb is in her third season at SU. She has taken the Redhawks to a 33-35 record in her tenure. Seattle U advanced to the 2017 WAC Tournament Championship Game and then won the 2018 WAC Tournament. Barcomb is one of two active NCAA coaches to guide three different schools to the NCAA Tournament in Division I (SU), Division II (Cal State East Bay), and Division III (Puget Sound).
• Kamira Sanders is back for her junior season after being named 2018 WAC Tournament MVP. The Redding, Calif., native won 2017 WAC Freshman of the Year honors.
• Madeline Dopplick is the lone senior on this year’s roster. The native of Long Beach, Calif., led the Redhawks with 58 made three-pointers last season.
• SU has added two freshmen and a transfer for 2018-19 season. Courtney Murphy and Sarah Rahon will make up the rookie class, while Olivia Crawford will be eligible after transferring from the University of Hawai’i and sitting out the 2017-18 campaign.
• Seattle U was voted to take third in both the 2018-19 WAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll and Media Poll. Kamira Sanders was selected All-WAC Preseason.
• Transfers Chinwe Ezeonu and Hailey Vice-Neat, along with freshman Georgia Kehoe, will sit out this season and be eligible for the 2019-20 season. Ezeonu is a Seattle native who transferred from San Jose State, while Vice-Neat joins SU from Boise State.
