STARTING STRONG
Seattle U has opened the season with a 10-3 record through 13 games, matching the best start to a season in 50 years. The last time a Seattle U team (of any division) started the season 10-3 was 1968-69. That year also marked the last time that Seattle U advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament. Seattle U went 19-8 that season, eventually falling 75-73 to Weber State in the NCAA First Round. The last time that Seattle U had a better start to a season was in 1966-67 when they went 11-2 through 13 games, then dropped two straight to sit at 11-4 through 15 contests.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
This marks the first ever meeting between Seattle U and Prairie View A&M.

LAST TIME OUT
The Redhawks improved to 10-3 to start the season for the first time in exactly 50 years with a 67-56 win at University of Portland on Dec. 17  at the Chiles Center in Portland. The Redhawks (10-3) achieved the feat in déjà vu fashion to their 1968-69 counterparts, as the former Seattle U squad also beat Portland (6-7) for their 10th win of the season. That Seattle U team would improve to 10-3 in their 13th game of the season – a 79-54 win at Portland. The current Seattle U team used a dominating 15-0 run to start the game and went on to lead 22-3 and 26-6 over the Pilots. Stifling defense held the Pilots to single-digits until the 4:40 mark of the first half when JoJo Walker hit a jumper to make it 26-11. Redhawks eventually took a 39-22 advantage into the break. After shooting better than 55 percent in the first frame, the Redhawks cooled in the second, hitting just 7-24 from the field (29.2 percent). But they also took advantage from the charity stripe, going 13-17 while the Pilots hit just 7-19 for the game. Portland would make things interesting late as a 6-0 run trimmed Seattle U’s lead to just seven, 59-52, with 2:09 to play. But the Redhawks would hit 5-6 free throws down the stretch to hold the Pilots at bay.

REDHAWK RUNDOWN

  • Matej Kavas drained six triples on Dec. 6 against Omaha as part of a 26-point performance. The six threes was one short of his single-game record of seven, set on Nov. 18, 2017 against Detroit Mercy. After hitting just one three in each of the first three games of this season, Kavas has begun to catch fire in recent outings. He has three or more triples in five of the last eight games and has shot .500 or better from deep in five of those games. His 2.5 threes per game ranks fourth in the WAC while his 32 total threes ranks second in the conference.
  • Morgan Means continues to dazzle during his junior campaign. The Compton, Calif., native leads the Redhawks in scoring at 16.0 ppg, which also ranks third best in the WAC. Through 13 games this season, he has four 20+ point games while shooting 44.5% from the field and 44.8% from three. As a sophomore, Means averaged 8.6 ppg while shooting 39.6% from the field and 28.2% from three. His free-throw percentage (82.8%) and rebounding average (4.8) have also increased this season.
  • Junior guard Terrell Brown has flirted with a triple-double twice this season. On Nov. 23 versus Denver, the Seattle native finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. On Nov. 28, he collected 26 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. He averages 11.1 points per game, leads the team with 5.5 assists per game, which also ranks second in the WAC, and, at just 6-1, is second on the team with 7.3 rebounds per game. He also has four double-doubles on the season, three consisting of points and rebounds and one consisting of rebounds and assists.
  • Myles Carter has 36 blocks through 13 games, the fifth most among all DI players in games played through Dec. 18. The redshirt junior also ranks 11th nationally at 2.77 blocks per game. He remains on pace to breaking the Seattle U program record for single-season blocks (79), set just last year by Aaron Menzies.
  • In games played through Dec. 18, the Redhawks were just one of 25 teams to have at least 10 wins on the season.
  • The Redhawks snapped a five-game road losing skid with a 67-56 win at Portland on Monday, Dec. 17. Seattle U is now 1-3 in road games this season, match-ups that include two games at Pac-12 members Stanford and Washington, and one WCC member in Portland.
  • Myles Carter and Terrell Brown each collected double-doubles at Portland on Dec. 17, marking the third time this season that multiple players had double-doubles in the same game. Carter and Matej Kavas acheived the feat together against Longwood (Nov. 25), while Carter and Brown combined to each tally a double-double against Northwest (Nov. 28).
  • Seattle U ranks first in the WAC in scoring margin (+11.8), FG percentage defense (38.8) and blocks per game (4.6), and second in scoring (80.6 ppg), FG percentage (47.2) and 3-pt FG percentage (39.1).
  • With five players averaging double-figures, all five rank in the WAC’s top-20 for scoring. Morgan Means ranks third (16.0 ppg), Matej Kavas s sixth (14.6 ppg) Myles Carter is 10th (13.8 ppg), Delante Jones is 14th (12.1 ppg) and Terrell Brown is 18th (11.1 ppg).
  • Brown ranks also second in assists (5.5 per game) and fifth in rebounds (7.3 per game). Carter ranks third in rebounds (8.2), third in FG% (58.1%) and first in blocks (2.8).
  • The Redhawks play a 19-game home schedule in 2018-19, and host 22 total contests as the schedule includes a three-team, six-game tournament. The Redhawk Center, located on the Seattle U campus, will serve as the primary venue for the 2018-19 season due to the renovation and shutdown of KeyArena, scheduled to take place in 2019 and 2020. Seattle U is excited to partner with the Oak View Group and return to the newly-renovated $700 million Seattle Center Arena in 2020-21.
  • Seattle U has compiled a 228-145 (.611) record in North Court, including a 15-game winning streak that began Nov. 5, 2008 with a perfect 10-0 mark during the 2008-09 season. In 2017-18, the Redhawks went 9-1 at the Redhawk Center and so far in 2018-19, the Redhawks are 7-1.
